5.4 3V spark plug options

OK well after reading many posts its clear that theres a problem. I have 70K miles and wat to get the plugs changed and cant afford to have one break. I will be taking it to the dealer to do this but what can i do before i bring it to them to make it go a little easier. I mean like 93 gas or addatives also i have an edge ive had it for about 2 months i think i will be setting it back to stock and taking it out when i bring them my truck so they cant say that was the problem any help will be great thanks
Matt

I had my plugs changed about a month ago @ approx. 68000 miles. Brought it to a Lincoln Mercury dealer instead of the Ford dealer because I just had a better gut feeling. I dropped it off in the morning and had it back that afternoon, no broken plugs but the tech said that 2 of them came out real hard. Total cost was about $315 parts and labor. Hope everything goes well for you also.

I had mine done recently at 66,000. I just returned my Edge to stock and took it in. They followed the TSB, said 2 were a little difficult, took extra soaking but all came out fine. They told me that they have had only one plug break and that truck had 95,000 plus it idled all day. An oilfield service truck. I think the key is taking their time, and following the TSB. Good luck.

Just the plugs and replacement was $350, less a 10% coupon I had, so net $315. I also had the boots replaced. They ripped me there, $104 just for the little rubber boots, there was no extra labor. Total would have been $454before the 10% discount.

Yep, I decided that if I broke one off, the towing would be even more costly. So, decided to trust the dealer with it and it turned out well. Thank goodness it will only need to be done every 3 years or so.

Had mine changed out last week at 35,000 miles. The dealer broke 3 of them. I've been running shell 93oct for the last several months with my tunes and apparently it did not help. I had them put the new champion plugs in and they only charged $156 to do the change. I had a long talk with the service manger before I took it in and he said as long as it is under warranty I would not have to pay any extra. Mine was the first truck that had any break at with less than 60k miles they had so they might change their mind next time and charge more......I don't know but with 3 breaking off $156 sounded great to me.
