Chipping a High Milage Truck

I have a 00 F150 7700 with about 150K on it. Is that too high of milage to chip it with an edge programmer? Or does milage not really matter?

I put my newer model edge on at 141,000. The trucks turns more rpm and shifts harder than ever, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ya, I am sure it will be great to drive, but I wonder how hard it is on a 5.4 with 150,000 miles.

Its not hard, the firmer shifts are better for a auto trans, and will increase it's longevity. The other changes to pulse width and timing will compliment the truck better. If you have any other mods, then it would benefit you to get a custom tune, then the "program" will be specific to your mods and driving style. It will not hurt your truck at all.

It will depend on health of the engine of course. Some engines with those miles are nice and clean and will have no options. If you have one that has a lot of carbon buildup on the pistons and valves it may be more prone to detonation as those deposits can lead to hot spots in the chamber. If the engine runs good and seems healthy you should be just fine.

Ya my motor is super strong. I just had the carbon cleaned out less than 10K ago. At the same time I had the whole truck gone thru and made sure it was totally dialed.

I say go for it, I installed the hypertech performance program on my 97 x cab with 196,000 on it then drove it HARD till 220,000 until I regretably sold it and bought my 01 screw. Both 5.4 3.55 gears but the 97 would make the 01 look sick

To get the best gains and provide the best safety for your engine and transmission, especially on an older truck, i highly recommend custom tuning to really nail it down. Canned tunes are not even close to as good for your truck as custom tailored tunes are.
