water in the intake

water in the intake

ok so i go mudding alot and there is alot of water now i have now gotten water in my intake twice and my engine cuts out and i let it sit for about twenty min and the i start it up an let it idle for about 10-20 min i think i need a new intake...but how bad is it and what will happen in the long run it runs fine now

you just got your MAF sensor wet. You dont need a new intake.

ok so there should be nothing else to worry about...and i was just saying the new intake because i want to get one...

intake manifold? or a cold air intake?

If you get water on a hot MAF wire it will snap. Get a snorkel or stay out of the deep water. If your engine ingests enough water it will hydro lock.

CHANGE YOUR OIL! Seriously, check your oil for water - it should come out first. If you got water in there, you could have major problems. Flush it with new oil and change it again in a couple days. That water can cause little rust spots which will weaken the cylinder walls and cause it to fail prematurely. You really want to change your tranny and diff oil too if you got deep enough to get water in the intake. Best bet is to stay out of the still water or be prepared to replace the engine and/or tranny in a year. BTW, ever hear of hydrolock?

ya ive heard of hydro lock and i wasnt in that deep of water i was just goin a little fast. and the stock air intake on an 07 4.6 sucks the inlet for air is in the driver side wheel well or something like that...but i have changed my oil and everything seemed ok..ill keep you updated...

and i cant find a snorkel for my truck any help would be appreciated and thanks for all the infoo
