PO301 and PO305

About a week ago my truck, a 97 with a 4.6, started to misfire at idle while i was sitting in traffic. the cel came on and started blinking so i took it to advance auto parts and it came back with a misfire on cylinders 1 and 5. i did a tune up with new plugs, coil packs, and wires about 2 months ago. so i went back home and changed the plugs with two old ones and still had a problem. i put the new plugs back in and changed the coil pack and it seemed to fix the problem. This morning while driving home it started to miss again. Theres no code yet.

This could just be coincidence but a few days before this happened i had some troyer underdrive pulleys put on. also each time its done this its been raining outside.

Ignition module? These trucks have no such thing, ignition is controlled by the pcm. Did you keep the old coil packs?

thats what i thought but a guy at advance or oreileys showed me a part called i think an ignition control module but i didnt think that was right.

i kept everything from the tune up. i put an old coil pack in and it ran great for the last week. no problems at all and it seemed that my gas mileage even went up (but that could be from the ud pulleys).

im kinda thinking its the wires because i know that the motorcraft plugs are good, ive read on here that global automotive has good products, but i used cheap wires that were msd knock offs i think

Those could be the problem, did you replace the coils with stock or aftermarket?

i replaced the coils with aftermarket ones from global automotive.

i did not use dielectric grease when i first replced them. i had it but i did not no where it needed to go. last week when i changed the plugs to test them, i did on the spark plug side. where exactly do i need to put the grease?

In the boot, where you did. With aftermarket wires and coils it is hard to tell. do you know who makes the coils?

Well with a one year warranty I would call them up and get a new set or a refund if possible. If you have a Ohm meter check the wires, the max spec is 10k ohms per foot, but I don't like anything that high.
