jbrew - that one you posted, I thought that was the one everyone has been talking about when they mention the "metal scissor type", no?

I have the round plastic clip type. I have tried to get it 2 or 3 times, still have not yet gotten it. Last time I even had the tool in all the way as far as it could go, but still couldn't get it off. It looks like it has been on there awhile though, so I figure it will take a bit to get it off.

The bigger chrome one above doesn't work - the walls are to thick. The blue oil line tool is the one I have to use to pull the Motorcraft filter. I was looking for a longer one. That's why I liked the one I posted earlier - I still might give it a try if I can find one.

maybe I missed it but an easy way to release the fuel line pressure is to pull the fuel pump relay or fuse and start the engine. It will quickly die due to fuel starvation and releive the line pressure.

I too had one that would not release. I had changed mine twice before, no problem, using the metal sissor type. The last filter i tried to remove, I could not get it to release on the outlet side. I then purchased the set of plastic tools as I was told they were thiner. They did no better. I ended up taking it to a lube place and they ended up pulling the spring clamp out of the line. They had some kind of replacement that they put back in the line. They told me that it happened occasionally, the spring just will not release. I am curious when it comes time to do it again, will their fix release? They charge $45 for the fuel filter service and the Ford dealer charges $69. I hate paying someone that kind of money when I should be able to do it in 10 minutes for about $12.

Bluejay - were these on different vehicles? If the same vehicle, aren't the spring clips on the line themselves, not the filter, and thus it wouldn't matter one way or the other from filter to filter?

The parts store here does have a tool just like your blue oil line tool, maybe I'll pick one of those up. They are a bit more than the plastic pieces, like $17 up here, but I guess if it works better I should get it. I think there might be a fram filter in there now instead of motorcraft.

I think Tumba's scissor type is better (the smaller one - mine is to big, it doesn't fit) - I heard they break if your to hard on them. Idunno , I'm going to get me one of those. But yea, the blue one works as well..

same vehicle, 2005. What holds the filter in the line is a spring loaded clip inside the line. When you push the tool up inside the line, it expands the spring and causes it to release. Mine would not release, so they had to pull it out of the line with the filter. They told me that sometimes, they have the opposite problem. When they push the new filter in, the spring will not reload and grab onto the new filter, so they have to pull those out as well.
