Can't pull codes from truck

I did some light offroading this morning, drove back to my place (like 3 miles away) and shut the truck off. When I started it back up an hour or 2 later, I was getting a CEL. When I took it to Autozone, they weren't able to pull codes from the truck, the guy said there was something wrong with the port. What exactly should I look for to fix this? The guy said it could be a fuse, which one though? The truck is a 2001 4x4 5.4L f150

Just check them all. By what you call "light off roading" did you happen to go through any deep water.... Cause i know that the 5.4 has problems with misfires if you get water onto of the COP. It happens in the rain sometimes. That could have caused it....

I would start by checking the fuses. If you get the port working then you can get a code and maybe it will tell you what cylinder/ cylinders to look at.

I went through a little deep water, but not nearly enough for it to flood over the hood or anything major like that. I don't think the truck is misfiring. I had to replace the COPs on my 2000 F150 because it was misfiring, and you could definitely feel it when driving. This has to be a sensor or something because it drives and idles fine.

There is a fuse that will blow that will cause your OBD-II port to not work...

Well check the fuses and get the codes read so we have at least a direction to go. Trust me water and mud are not to nice to trucks... I know

Yea , I would show you where mine is , I know their different in your model. They changed fuse blocks in 99. They may have changed them again in the 2000 lol. Well, they did that allot.. That little book in the the glove box will tell you. OR motorcraft.com - I think you can download that manual their.

The owner's manual for my 2000 XL shows that it is fuse #3.

You can find it in the fuse panel below and to the left of the steering wheel. Fuse #3 is the third fuse from the left in the first row of fuses above the row of relays.

The manual says it's a 20A and it's for the "Cigar Lighter, OBD-II Scan Tool Connector."

yeah I just saw that in my manual to. Just glancing at the fuse box, the fuse I saw looked more like a small black box than a small fuse. Is this just a cheap standard fuse I can pickup at Autozone or somewhere similar?

If the OP needs a copy of the 2000 F150 Owners Manual in PDF format, he'll find it here:

http://redinkmagazine.net/tmp/F150-2000-Owners-Man.pdf

I find it much easier to use the PDF "search" feature than to flip back and forth from the index in the paper version.

i haven't even had time to look at the fuse, I was about to drive to class (in class now) and popped the hood just to see if I could find it real quick. I'm assuming it's bad though, and am going to replace it.

It's not under the hood.
