acetone

I recently watched an episode of "MYTHBUSTERS" where they tested many ways to increase mileage. Acetone was one of the things they tried, and according to them it made absolutely no difference, and they did use pretty high tech computers and equipment for the test. Possibly it was just a limited result with the vehicle they were using (they did test both carb and efi vehicles) maybe it does work with the f150??? Please post any positive results.

My '05 has never averaged more than 16. (supercab, 5.5' bed, and 5.4L engine w/ 3.73's)

I drive 70-75 on the highway and live in Oklahoma, so i'm usually bucking the wind one way or another.

I got about 18mpg once on a tankk i used on i-10 in Florida and Alabama (dead flat, no wind)-- but that was only once

These heavy trucks are just not that thrifty for the most part

I have a 2001 with a 4.2L V6 with 110K mileage that doesn’t owe me anything. I am going to try this little gimmick next fill up. I am wondering if anyone else has tried this in his truck.

I’ll post my findings in the next couple weeks.

I am also experimenting with this. running 3oz of acetone per tank. still on the 1st tank. it looks to be giving me 2mpg gain. keep in mind this is on a 2.2L 4 banger s-10. I am not ready to feed this to the 5.4 triton..
BUT my s-10 only has 45k on it so I don't want to burn anything up! please post and negative results.

4.2L V6 here with CAI and I'm averaging 15 city/17 hwy with 90% city/10% highway driving on 380 miles/tank. I have a heave foot. If I'm in the "gas saver" mood I get 22/24 easily.
