Oil Change?

Last time I got my oil changed I took it to a shop.. ever since its been having a loud engine hum when the engine is under load.. and its a lot louder than before. So tomorrow im planing to change the oil myself since i'm about 7K over. I always run synthetic so ill be getting some 5w-20. i cant decide between royal purple or mobil 1 and what oil filters should i stay away from? im looking towards a k&n or something like that.

And i have a noobish question... where is the pcv valve and what do I do to clean or replace it?

Thnx

PCV valve is in the right valve cover. It sticks in a grommet in the valve cover and has about a 1" dia tube coming off it running to the intake for a vacuum source. No maintenance necessary. If the little thingie in there is rattling around, it's good (at least what I've always been taught). 78,000 miles on mine and going strong.

Don't decide between RP or M1...go Amsoil.

Only filter I personally would recommend you steer clear of is Fram. Other than that...

I am using Mobil 1 EP and a Mobil 1 filter now. However, I highly recommend Amsoil products too.

7K over How often do you change the oil??? Yea, you better use the best stuff made and cross your fingers that it's good enough.

Any grease cutting agent will clean up the PCV valve . If you have access to compressed air you can use just about anything to clean it , then blow it out well..

Without compressed air -MAF cleaner is recommended.

Mobil 1 5w20 is easily obtained in 5 qt. jugs at Walmart. Stick with the Motorcraft 820s filter. Its inexpensive, well made and works even for extended oil changes. If you're using a synthetic oil consider going at least 7500 miles between changes, I go 10,000 without batting an eye.

If you regularly go 7,000 miles over between oilchanges, you probably have bigger things to worry about than which oil and filter to use.

Oil Filter

Is it alright to leave an oil filter on for a year if youre running synthetic oil?

Don't be a cheap ***. Change the filter when you change your fluid. And use a GOOD filter. Sure, you saved $10 by using cheap oil and a cheap filter. Now add it to the $2,000 engine fund, cause you're gonna need it.

oil filter

Im not trying to be a cheap ***, what i shoulda said was that i only put 10,000 miles on a year hence 1 oil change per year. Im not gonna buy oil that costs $8 a quart thatll last me a year and change my filter still every 3 months and just keep adding oil to fill the filter

REGULAR vehicle maintenance is cheap insurance against costly repairs down the road.
