That all depends on how easily your feelings get hurt. Sounds like normal garage talk to me.

Ahhhh, that's a question that will not be answered in this life my friend. Oil is the lifeblood to our passions...these stupid trucks!! Secrets, beliefs, and rules to live by, handed down from generation to generation. Of all the subjects that have, or will ever come up on here, oil will always be the most passionate.
I sincerely believe none of it is ill intended. We are all just passionate in our beliefs, or set in our ways...which ever works!!
Quality synthetics and quality filters are quite capable of being run a year or 12k miles with no ill effects. If you don't agree, fine, change your oil when you want, it's your truck. I use Mobil 1 EP and Mobil 1 filters, and I run it to anywhere between 7 and 9k. A 6 quart change puts it 1/3 of the way up the crosshatches on the stick, it takes about 3k to get it down to the add line, I put a quart in, and then change it when it's down to the add line again or close to it, which is about another 6k. The Mobil 1 Express Lube I go to says that I could run it 15k if I wanted.
Just don't tell people that doing this will kill their engines - because it won't.

It should be 3,000 miles or so or every 6 months.
I go every 6 months on my Roush because I never make it to the 3,000 mark in 6 months. It usually takes me a year.
On my truck, it ends up being every couple of months or so. Whether I hit the 3,000 mark or not, I just change it to keep fresh, clean oil in there.

I agree , there's nothing to worry about or question following those guidelines.
It was the same sort of feeling running an oiled filter and questioning MAF health doing so. Running a good brand dry filter put that one to bed.
