first oil change

I've had my new F150 FX2 5.4L since October 7th and it only has 1600 miles on the clock. Seeing as how it says oil changes should be done at 5000 miles, should I change it earlier seeing as how it will be in there for a long time before I hit that mileage? I will be switching to full synthetic as soon as I can but I'm not sure if I should do it during the first oil change or wait until the second for the switch.

Switching to synthetic oil should not be a problem.
