Question factory oil

Just bought an 08' FX4 and wondering what the thinking is as of Dec. 2007 on changing out the factory fill oil and at what mileage?, and can I go full synthetic this early?

thanks

i would run the truck between 5-10k miles before changing to sythetic oil, but i doubt it would really matter that much.

You can swap to synthetic at anytime, why people feel motors dont break in on anything but dino is beyond me

I would change out the factory fill at 3k or 3 months and put whatever you want in, be it semi-synthetic or full synthetic, and I'd stick with the recommended 5W20. I wouldn't use straight dino oil in a modern Ford truck engine and I'd use a Motorcraft or other high quality filter.

every new car/truck I buy gets full synthetic at or around 1500 miles. My 2005 F150 was an exception but that was b/c I went on a long hunting trip out west. I think I went full syn at about 3800 miles.

It's hard. I swear they put that filter on with an impact gun. I tried to loosen the filter fist thing before draining the oil. I gave up trying to get the filter off and took it to Walmart. Had them put in Motorcraft Synthetic Blend 5w-20 with a Motorcraft filter.

Maybe the best thing to do is have the dealer do the first oil change and let them deal with the filter. If you have any warranty issues from delivery or that appear right away, just combine your trip.

You got it, what do "synthetic from the factory" cars break in with? Honestly, I'd change out the oil at 1500 miles maybe and go from there synthetic. Me personally, dino oil is fine, my first oil change was at 5k km's and haven't used anything but dino 5w-30 and sometimes have used (40% of the time) a Fram filter. You should hear my brother, got an 08 Limited and wants to change @ 500 km's, 1000, 1500 and then go synthetic. I told him he's retarded and really shouldn't change it until 5000 km's, who cares. If he's gonna be that ****, fine, change it at 1500 to ease you're mind.

FYI, dino 30w Heavy duty lawn mower oil is a great break in oil, or Shell Rotella 15w-40 diesel oil, but this is recommended for high horsepower brand new engines. Another great and some say no longer available is GM's EOS break in lube.

Another FYI, ha ha, I use to install those filters at the factory and aren't they fun taking off? You shoulda seen the torque gun used to install em
