Oil filter

Is the oil filter on a 2001 5.4 the sames as fitted to all Ford small blocks? Got a filter for my Mustang sitting in the garage so just wondering whether that will fit?

If not, has anyone got a Fram part# so I can cross reference .......I'm in the UK!!

If the Mustang was a 5.0, no it is not. 5.4 uses FL-820S

It does take a Fram PH2, but I don't recommend that you actually use a Fram. If you can't get Motorcraft filters there, look for Wix or Purolator.

10-4 on the leak down!!!! If you can get a MOTORCRAFT or a MOBIL-1 filter, go for it. I am in GERMANY and can only get a fram for my truck on the fly!

How about Purolater or Wix. Both are far better than Fram.

Well, I agree and I am fighting that every last chance I get. AAFES ( if you know what that is) thinks they have rights above any oter because they are military backed. When I got here I ordered parts from AAFES and they told me it would take 3 weeks to get parts. I go online and MOST OF THE TIME HAVE PARTS IN 4 DAYS.

I use FRAM because, I HAVE HAD NO TROUBLES OUT OF THEM. I don't worry about leak down because I use LUCAS OIL STABILISER 2X a year. It keeps parts nice and quiet.

I can say if you neglect to keep on a 3k or a 3.5k mile oil change limit, please go for the OEM or the MOBIL-1 filter. If you change on schedule, I have no complaints (with my 4.6 I might add) on filter troubles. If you worry about leak down, DON't BUY FRAM.

I have some old civilian friends that work for the exchange garage at Ft Irwin, If you want Ill try to get a hold of them maybe they can help out. I used to order out of Summit on my AAFES account throuh them, bought nitrous, tires, headers anyhting I wanted.
