Has anyone had this code P1409
Has anyone had this code P1409
I have had the check engine light on for awhile now and since the state of NC upgraded the emission standards I cant pass inspection. I'm getting a P1409 "EGR vacuum regulator circuit fault." the explanation and some of the probable causes that were on the print out from autozone were ECM commands EGR vacuum regulator on-system voltage too high or low. 1. Failed EGR vacuum regulator or 2. Open or shorted circuit condition. Will cleaning the throttle body help clear this problem, or does it seem like somthing else. I unpluged and cleaned all of the electrical connections on or around the EGR and still no joy.

Pete, this regulator is controlled by the computer and gates vacuum to the EGR.
Check the winding resistance for being open or shorted and the plugup.
Since the code is specific to the regulator the fault is right there and not some other place or part to be cleaned or replaced unless you want to do maintance in other areas.

No one has prescribed replacement of the EVR solenoid. Further testing has been advised to determine if it is responsible for your fault code.
To locate the EVR solenoid, locate the vacuum line on the EGR valve. The other end of that line connects to the EVR solenoid.
Inspect its connector. If connected, measure the coil's resistance to see if it is open. Check for short to ground for each terminal. If the coil is is between 28 and 40 ohms, it is okay. If there are no shorts to ground and the coil reads the proper resistance, the solenoid is NOT responsible for the fault code and replacing it will NOT correct the fault code.

I've had that code
check the rubber hoses going to the egr, one of mine were cracked and was allowing air to get into the system. i replaced both rubber tubes and the code went away.
edit: it was definitely a P1409, but said nothing about any electrical faults, I would still check the rubber hoses though.

fixed
Hey ya'll,
I fixed it. it was the EGR vacuum regulator. I just wasn't sure that was the part I was looking at until I typed EGR vacuum regulator into e-bay motors and found a picture.
I noticed some corrosion around the electrical connection last night, so I pulled the part and opened it up and it looked like it had been dipped in saltwater. I live at the beach so in theory it has been. Thats why I decided to just replace the part I figured if it wasn't the problem it should be replaced anyway. $28.00 from the stealership. Now I can get my long expired inspection done.
Thanks to everyone for all the help.
