Hello all. I'm new to the forum.

I searched and found a lot about the 4.6 engine I have. However I could not find anything about how (per Ford) the stock 07 4.6 engine has 15 more HP over a 06 4.6. I have a 05 4.6 and I would like to get as much 'free' HP gains as I can if there is something I can do to my truck. Anybody have any idea? Thanks!

 

I think it just tuned a little different. I might be wrong though.

 

I'm not sure , but I think some 4sixes from 04 up don't have the 3 valve heads - some do..Read that somewhere , can't recall the link..

 

The same thing kinda happened with the 5.0L H.O. motors from 92 to 93 they went from 225 hp to 215 hp with no change to the motor. It could be a factory testing thing.

 

It's really about what you get to the wheels. You think that truck will be quicker than yours? Prolly not. If you want to go fast, change your gears. Get dynoed and you will be surprised what is actully making it to the wheels. Its a whole lot less than the factory. Take what you know and reduce it by 30% +/- and that's what is getting to the wheels. When the body style changed, ford upped the HP on the motors, however the weight and aerodynamics of the vehicle changed as well! Power to weight ratio was latered significantly. Tuning will really help you as ford dumbs these trucks down to a ridiculous degree.

Thanks for the response guys. From what I understand the numbers posted by Ford are SAE certified so there is some merit to them. I don't need any big mods to get extra HP as I don't really do too much with my truck. I plan to do some moderate towing and I was trying to see if there were any easy mods that could give me some power increase. For example if Ford is just changing the air/fuel maps for the trucks and getting more power with the same engine. Or did Ford improve a component in the engine and this new component helped get the extra power. From what I was told at the dealer my 05 4.6 is the same as a 07 4.6 so how does the 07 get more power?

 

funny that the new 04+ 4.6's have smaller throttle bodies but a more agressive tune to them. but if they can push 260-265hp out of the mustang with the 4.6 and the 2v head im sure its not to much more to get it on the different intake manifold

 

i think the intake manifold is diffrent
