Question 2007 F150 XLT Temp gage. What is normal?

Hey guys,

I just bought my 2nd F150. I bought a 2007 F150 XLT this weekend.

When I was driving home I saw the temp gage was in the middle and just kind of sat there. It never moved. That was good.

What bothered me about this is my old 98 F150 XL never climbed over about the quarter mark on the temp gage.

Other 2007 owners....what are you seeing on your temp gages for normal running temps?

Thanks All!!

Thats completely normal. That is where all the 2004+ models temperature gage stand at.

180°-200°F range is the normal operating temp. If you're stuck in traffic, the temperature will rise slightly. If you do a gauge sweep or if you have a computer chip you can monitor the coolant temp. What you are describing is normal.

Temperature

I had a Mazda that ran like that. The Temp gage never moved until it climbed over a certain temperature. Is that what the new F150's do?

It kind of weirded me out because my old truck ran at 25% of the gage indicator. I know that means nothing in degrees. Just wondering if thats what you guys see in your trucks too. Do they run around half the heat gage level?

I am always watching for anything weird on a new truck till I know what is normal for it.

Thanks again guys!!

The thermostats in the 04 up is a 195. It needs 195 to 205 to operate efficiently. I have a guage and it moves from 195 to 198.

My 03 rides smack dab in the middle once it warms up. It won't go any higher till it's actually overheating. It's a semi-smart gauge, if that makes any sense, treat it like an idiot light.

Exactly, it doesn't show temp, just cold, normal, hot.

Thanks Scott. Me too. My 98 F150 went 160k without one trip to the dealer for anything other than maintenance. It was a great truck too. Got too old so I finally traded for the 07.
