Electric supercharger? (laugh)

Is this actually being sold to increase HP?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-...spagenameZWD1V

Is there ANY benefit to that?

419 scams are still around, because they work, so I'm sure some desperate soul thinks these things work...more power to anyone who cons anyone else into buying them!

Really? Would a ROM chip be equally effective for the tune?

Sure there is a benefit, if you have a boat. These things on ebay are Bilge motors. A real electric supercharger would have vastly larger wire and rated at a minimum of a 50A draw, and typically more. There are electric superchargers out there, but they are serious motor driven blowers. The old saying goes "it takes power to make power" and that is true for electric powered blowers. Now, eRam makes a real one but it is really meant for small displacement motors, the site even tells you pretty much forget about it if you have a V8.

Now, and yes you all can laugh, I have a "project" in mind. Do you know those electric blowers used to power up those big inflatable jumpy things you see at fairs and at backyard birthday parties? They run about 7 to 10A at 120V AC for a small one, that would translate into serious current at 12 V DC. I am thinking, and only thinking, of getting a DC/AC invertor, and a signal generator. A) convert supplied 12v to 120V(more like 130 volts), then B) up the frequency from the standard 60 Hz to maybe 120 Hz or 200 Hz, as that would increase motor spindle speed. Those jumpy thing blowers can actually put out some pressure. Ok, laugh!!

like infireredf150 was sayin they only work on small engines because on bigger engines the motor starts to draw in more air than that little electric motor push so it begins to hurt your motor

Wondering if I should attempt to put a single turbo on...be kinda neat to have one Dunno what I would be getting into tho! I think it'd be simpler than a supercharger....

If 3 to 4 psi was your goal, there might be less costly alternatives, might even have to invent something, but if 6 psi or greater is your goal then either a hard working S/C or a good matched T/C. I have read on the net where some have placed the turbo on the exhaust after the cats, underneath the vehicle, rather than in the engine bay. That approach might make a homemade kit easier to fab up.

I'm just looking for a little boost, nothing spectacular, and i don't wanna spend tons of money, get a good turbo for $300 or so and go from there.
