New 5.4 engine at 2600 miles

I bought a new 2007 FX2 with the 5.4 engine. Labor day weekend it started to idle rough and die at red lights. I took it in last Tue. morning, and within a few hours they called to tell me that they ordred a new engine. Something about a bad thrust washer on the Crank. The error codes were something about the cam positioning sensor. Has anyone else seen this?

Does replacing the engine seem to cause more problems than it fixes? Should I be concerned about a NEW trcuk with a replaced engine?

Yeah, there's a few 2007 5.4 3Vs with bad thrust bearings. The crank walks around and disturbs the cam/crank sync signal.

If it was me, I'd make sure they put a NEW engine in. Back when the 5.4s were fairly new (97-98) they were putting rebuilt motors (factory reman) in for people with Piston Slap. I have the Slap in mine, but I'm glad I stuck with it. It now has 225K on it and it still runs great (other than the rattle at startup).

Point is, make sure it is NEW, not REMAN......

I have been in the same situation, I had them buy the truck back. But, they did swap the engine in the truck and i had to drive it until the replacement came in. There was nothing out of place, missing, or not connected. The tech that did the swap did a great job.

I couldve kept that truck, but they had already approved the buyback. Only because it took them 35 days to get the NEW engine in. Good luck with yours, they will get it straightened out.

At that low mileage, the assembly plant should be sending that guy's dealer a new engine in the box, complete from intake to oil pan.

Yes, the dealer said it was a NEW engine in the crate. They did get me a rental with an upgrade to an Expedition so I can still pull my boat until it is fixed. I took it in last Tue, and I am supposed to get it back Tomorrow, so I cnot complain about that. I am just concerned about the state of the truck when I get it back mainly.

07 FX2 Screw 1812 miles same here, same noise and ....new engine. only took 5 days to get a replacement. They did give me a rental and everything was covered. however......the "engine" light on the dash came on the next day. back to the shop she goes. as soon as i can get the time off work to take it back. what ever is making the light come on does not seem to make the truck run bad. i did find out how to make the light go out and how to make it come back on.

Were you also getting horrible gas mileage? I was getting 11 MPG or so on the highway. My V10 F350 Dually got better than that in town. I am hoping it was due to the problem and will get better with the new engine.

That stinks. I was hoping to get better. Like I said, my V10 did better than that. That is very disappointing. I had a 2004 Dodge 2500 Cummins right before this, and I was getting 23, and 19 when pulling my boat. I may have to go back that direction next time. But, my new truck is so nice and comfortable. I sure like the interior of the Ford, as well as the looks of the FX2 package.
