I went and picked up a OBDII scanner and it gave me a P0304 code, misfire cylinder four. So it would appear I'm not quite as lucky as you Chris. I again listened to that injector and it sounds fine.

I noticed when I pulled the plug wire from the plug and hole that there was some oil on the wire. What that means I have no idea.

I'm going to try to yank that plug out today and see what I can find. Although, it's so buried back there I don't know if I'll be albe to do it.

I just stuck a socket down in the plug hole and came up with oil on the socket. Wiped it off, did it again, oil again.

Would oil short out a plug over time?

And... what would cause there to be oil in that hole?

Guys,!

Problemo fixedo! well at least that cylinder is.

I am going to tackle changing out all the other coils this weekend (got the 8 coils in from Global Automotive (ebay) on Saturday.

Do any of you have any tricks, tips for changing out those #'s 3,4, 5,6,7,8 coils? My local "GO TO" mechanic quoted me 160.00 for just labor to change out the remaining 7 coils. seemed kinda high to me.

-Chris

Plug, coil, injector, PCM coil driver, or cylinder machanics and sometimes an air leak in the intake runner to that cylinder than may not upset other cylinders enough to be detected as a general lean code.
The cylinder detection is done on a rotation time basis and compaired to a table.
If rotation time goes below the limits "long enough" (number of times), a decision is made that it is a missfire (for whatever reason) and sets a code and lamp.
To go on a bit deeper, if it is an ignition failure, fuel is still being injected into the cylinder and pumped thru to the cats and detected there as possibily an increase in heating the cat. This possibility sets a flashing ses lamp telling you of the condition.
If a fuel injector blocks or fails in some way, a dry miss becomes the fault with no flashing lamp.
Either condition is a loss of power as detected by the monitor for that cylinder. the flashing lamp is an extra warning not to keep driving the vehichle because the cats are burning the fuel that should have been combusted in the cylinder.
This can overheat the cats and distroy them.
I just wanted to say that this is good information not commonly known and thank you for this. You get your issue resolved Will?

Not much man, how you been?! Got my truck running relatively well finally, except for an exhaust leak I need to track down and problems with my compressor. Oh, and still putting off replacing my heater core... better do it before winter I guess *sigh*

I'm Great! Good to hear, yea the compressor trick and a bottle of your best soapy water will find the leak every time lol. I haven't had a problem with mine in a long time. I'm going to need new tires soon tho, again. Set #4 (or maybe 5) I believe.

Yea, you have to that HC before winter or you'll be kicking yourself. It will take the week end +. If you start Friday night, you should be done Sunday, -with enough beer.
