I have dual reversible 14's, pullers. They move a LOT of air, but my question is, what if I reversed it, where its pushing air out through the front? I could make my a/c over ride switch also to shut it off when im going over 5mph if its on. I just think pushing the air out of the engine would be better in hot summer traffic, or any where when its hot. Lets hear your opinions

 

Think about it - do you want to suck hot air off the engine and blow it through a hot radiator, then through a hot AC condenser? I'd rather blow cool air through the condenser then the radiator........if anything, get a louvered hood to let the hot air out.

 

That was my main concern, blowing hot air through the a/c. I Like the idea of a heat extracting hood, but $$$

 

No matter how hot it is outside, the air under the hood is going to be hotter. You'll be blowing that hot air across the radiator in an (feeble) attempt to keep your motor cool. As mentioned, your AC performace will deteriorate also. Next, the benefit of having a puller fand as opposed to a pusher, is with a puller, the fan creates a low pressure area right behind the fan blades (and what's behind the fan blades...yes, the radiator). This low pressure area also helps induce a slight cooling effect. Also, If you reversed the fans to push air towards the front of the truck, what's gonna happen when you're trying to push air against normal air flow when the fans are running and you're moving foward?? Fans are more efficient this way. It's easier and more effective to pull cool air in than it is to push hot air out. Nice try though.

 

Yea, I guess what I need to do is make a custom shroud to cover the entire radiator and pull the fans off the radiator about an inch, so it pulls air through the entire radiator...

 

optimal spacing for a fan is 3/4" according to HP TV lol. and u might look into gettin 16" fans that cover the whole radiator not just 80%. and u can mount them on the front as pushers. and i wouldnt turn the fans off unless ur going over 40-45mph. because then the air moving in is greater than the fans can handle. i use just a simple switch. its not that hard to flip another switch when u turn the ac on.

 

I was just thinking about that earlier.I want to add E-Fans but the flex a lite kit is over $500 I have been thinking about trying patman's set up and making my own shroud.I realize i would not be able to do it out of plastic but you could out of sheet metal easily and cheaply.You could also paint it.
A metal break for sheet metal would be ideal for this if you know someone joey.
Doing it this way you could make a box that covered the entire radiator and by making a box and the just cut out the holes to mount your fans.With a little extra figuring you could make the brackets built right into the shroud.
The easy way is if someone would just sell a nice plastic mount made for these trucks without buying the whole kit

 

Yea thats what I was thinking, maybe 1/16 or 1/8" aluminum... I dont have a problem of running hot, but I know they would work much better by pulling air across the entire radiator

 

you dont really need a shroud, and personally i think its better to not have a shroud when you are driving on the highway. Its very cheap to make your own set up between 100-130 bucks installed

 

why would a shroud be bad? It would be on the engine side of the radiator... Not doubting, just want some more info

 

Usually an OEM E-fan from the wrecking yard will work superior to those crappy chinese made ones from Autozone.
Aerostars, Lincoln MarkVIIIs, mid-late 90s Taruii, and Continentals all have awesome fans. Plus you can get them for a fraction of the cost of the inferior speed shop fans.

 

Ya aluminum would be nice I think 1/8 inch is a little overkill.

Patman you will prob be getting questions from me when i go to do mine.I hate electrical work on vehicles I may just get the Troyer kit,i dunno i would like to see the new mounting system for that first

 

I am liking the idea of the 1/16 aluminum... My fans are good, no problems out of them for a long time, took a while to get the thermostat adjusted, but now I never know they are there, cant hear them run, but they pull a LOT of air.

 

Built i just think for highway use the vehicle is more areodynamic, and can use the whole radiator if there isnt a shroud covering 15% of the radiator.

I think that would look better than any plastic if done properly.Espicially after that nice new motor goes in IMO.

Also i think iknow what patman is saying as to it not flowing as efficient with taking up a good portion of the rad with the shroud and it would not pass as much air through as what it would w/o a shroud
