Yes I agree, I have an 18.5" E fan off a ford 500, I wonder If that would be better to use with the shroud I could build?

How many CFM do your current fans pull? I bet its just as much if not more than that 500 fan you have.
Personally I would rather have two fans than just one incase something would happen.
I cant believe Im saying this, but in this case I will. If it aint broke dont fix it...

I would think it would be sufficient. It would look cleaner IMO with just one right in the center.
You need to find how much CFM it has and how much your duels produce

On the other hand i agree with Bartak with having 2 in case one fails

Almost 4400cfm total. I dont know what the 500 fan pulls.. I agree about the part where 1 fails, you have a backup, but i dunno. The reason this came up is because cruising around town on the weekends, only mid 80's, not getting over 10mph for an hour or so, windows down and a/c on, the temp will get almost to the red, and I turn the a/c off and it takes about 10 minutes to get back where it should be. I would just like to do something to make it a little more efficient. Im sure some type of heat extraction hood would help a lot, probably solve the problem, but I cant afford that.

Is it the original radiator, water pump in your truck?I would think it should not get that hot when it's 80's.I have the original antifreeze in my truck (i know i should change it!!) and i have the stock fan.I drive in alot of traffic similar to you with A/C on and i have never seen my gauge go up much higher than where it normally is even when it's 100 outside.
Wait you also have UD pullies doesn't that also make the water pump turn slower?Has it always done this or is it getting worse over time?

my truck runs hotter with AC on, but since i havent finished my fan setup like i need it to be, i dont run the AC unless im going faster then 25. I have never seen mine get anywhere above dead center on the gauge.

And built you could do one 18" and on 14" fan

I would bet that 500 fan flows a little less than that.

I didnt think you were have any problems with it at all. Are you sure you dont have a problem somewhere else??? You should not be overheating like that.

BTW, I always thought the temp gauge didnt start moving up till the engine was at a fairly HOT temperature. Im not sure I would be running it up that high before turning the ac off to let cool down. Besides, mid 80's with the windows down, you shouldnt need ac
