In the long run it would be better. If my tranny held up.

What kind of tranny wouldn't hold up? 4R70w ? What do you have?

Alls you have to do is lengthen a few wires - use your coil packs - forget about 5four COPS ..Look thru posts from JMC , he's posted what you have to do - he's done it . Many others have as well.

Yeah i have read all of your posts and JMC write ups on it.

I have the M5-RD and i think somewhere i also read that you wouldn't think it would hold up to it.

But there is so many unknowns to the 5.4 swap. Like finding an exhast system for it. I would still ahve to wait for tunes to be able to run it off of the coil packs.

I have a windsor so i have the 8 bolt crank. I know this cuase i just put a brand spankin new ford tranny and centerforce in not less then 4,000 miles ago.

Heres where i stand.

Correct me if im wrong.

Spend $4k or so doing a 5.4 swap and have a truck that still ahs a ton of room for emprovment or spend $2k and had a 4.6 that is pretty much taped out as far as my money and smarts will take it.

I know with enough money anything is possible but... and i do say wit ha big BUT. Is it worth it to build up the 4.6.

Yea , ok .. Didn't know you had that trans - I thought I may have got ripped off when I purchased my 98 because I noticed after the fact in 99 that I paid a hell of allot more than most 150's on the market . I was to busy back then to check things out good . Then the motor blew in 2000, but that was a dealership error(negligence, employee discharged or quit, I didn't get those details) and they covered it. I lucked out tho and it was definitely worth it ..It's been an awesome truck to date (223,000 on the clock (new motor) 257,000 on the truck)..

That sucks... But at least yours has made it this long. Thats what happens when you take care of something.

Im just trying to do this right. In the next couple of months im going in contact with a couple of g's and i want to do a couple of things to her while i have the chance.

but i cant go with out a truck for more than a couple of days. THat makes this hard. What would you do?

ITs not to big of a pain. JMC has awsome write ups on it if your curious i can get tehm for ya. You have an auto right? ALl there is, is a couple of wires to splice together and you ahve to get a chip from TP to run yopur wireing harness if you dont have a doner. THe 5.4 uses COP and you dont so thats why you need the chip or a harness.

I don't think the Mazda M5-OD will hold up to much more than a stock 4.6. It even limits my load and towing ratings with my V6.

Hows that. Thats the one thing that is in the back of my mind while doing this upgrade. I have towed a ton with mine at slow speeds. I live on a farm and its nothing to tow 15000 lbs of hay short distances. I dont use it on the highway or long distance cuase we have PS's and 8.1's that can do a much better job.
