I just wanna say thank you to Ford for putting the oil filter right above the front differential. That little s.o.b was a handful to get off. I just took it off right now and giving myself a rest because my hand feels like its starting to cramp up from trying to get that piece of crap off.

I couldn't get to mine from the top even if I took the air intake off. Cause there was a bunch of coils and wires running across. Then underneath was hard I had the front differential and suspension crap in the way.

How many quarts of oil should I put in my 01?
I put in 5 quarts of Royal Purple 5W-20 and it sucked it in just fine. It was realy hard to see, but it looked as if my dipstick had the oil in between max and min so it should be good. I have another quart of RP just in case.

Not much of a GM fan anymore but my dad's ole '72 C10 pickup was about the simplest thing to work on. Dont even think it had a sensor on it. Could actually sit in the engine bay and use the hood like a patio umbrella. There was an engine, a radiator, the steering linkage, and that was about it!
I dont know about you guys but I look forward to the day when a Ford engineer asks me how I am doing! But looking under other hoods, other brands are no different.

Not the easiest to get off eh? Once you have the right filter socket and a good approach to it, every time will be easier. Not the cleanest and hard to get back up there but do-able. 6 bottles of 5w-30 is what my 2000 takes.
O I thank Ford everyday for my leaky head gaskets, leaky oil lines, the ticking my engine makes, the leaky rear axle seal I had to replace, the $100 in fluids for both diffs....

the warranty work on the Exploder, the bad power steering pump, bad fuel pump(twice), bad rear pinion, leaky trans-that was soppoviely fixed but still leaks, the leaky front pinion deal-that was also sopposively fixed and all on a truck with less than 60K on it

My 98 doesn't leak a drop - it has over 200k

Alright. I'll check the dipstick later and add oil if needed.
Best way to do it is to note where 6 quarts gets you on the dipstick after a change.

Yea, be careful there . The crankcase is usually full when it reads 3/4 between the lines on the dipstick. Overfilling WILL blow the gaskets.
Yeah I'd rather be a little low then full.
I'm pretty sure I'm about just perfect, but I'll check tomorrow when I get to work.
If all of you guys need filter wrenches when you change your own oil, your tightening that filter way too much... The only time I ever need to use a wrench on cars I touch is when they visited a sleaze-lube before me. You guys only need create a seal, not smash the seal into the engine.
