Lacking performance
Muffler shop will weld my system up for $50 - I'm getting these for now - with these and the 24" maggy cat back, It has a very good sound to it..The GT sound and it had plenty of torque.
There only $48 apiece , I can't spend to much - poor right now, I just bought another 98 ford f150 yesterday
It looks like Fasterf150's truck...Except it's prolly alot Faster....

brew, dont back out because it doesnt say 98.
the headers alone with those resonators (o2 boss's welded in already, 'fore and aft resonator)
the only thing that would be thrown out of the kit i showed would the the H/Y pipe crap.

Much better choice than that 302 you were looking at.

Glad to here that - It was hard to find a clean one around here. This guy kept all the oil change slipps in the glove box - That sold me right there..

Example:
I was looking at an OBX header with a friend and we found some interesting things:
1. The flange was stainless plated, not 100% stainless steel. This was apparent when a magnet stuck to the flange. When we ground away a little at it, we found regular old mild steel underneath.
2. The headers look TIG welded, but aren't. They are MIG welded, then ground down, then hit with a TIG torch to give the appearance of TIG welding. If you look, there are combinations of bends that a mandrel bender couldn't do, but you can't see any welds. This is because they're all ground down. If you look on the inside of the pipe, you'll see some pretty bad MIG welding.
3. They are obvious rip offs of hard working American companies. An OBX Sentra 2.0L header will fit perfectly on a jig that Hotshot's been using for years before OBX sold their first header. It was a 100% exact copy of their header.
If you look at these two pictures, you'll find some interesting similarities, though the angles are different, they're suspiciously similar looking:
OBX F150 header:

Dynatech F150 header:

4. The tubes themselves are made of extremely thin steel. Sure, it's stainless and won't rust (except for the flange, above), but they'll crack long before most mild steel headers rust out.
In addition, there was a guy who had bought a turbo from them. In a couple of miles, the compressor section split in half. As it turned out, the compressor section was GLUED together, not welded. You get what you pay for.
For a cheap 4 banger that's easy to swap a header on, it'll work well enough, but for a heavily used truck that's almost impossible to do the work on, you're better off spending a little more money than having to reweld or replace it in the near future.
Just my two cents and some observations.

Great Post and you changed my mind. I thought the resonator/converter looked strange on the OBX's.
I originally was saving my pennies for a set of kooks , but ran into exhaust problems before I was ready to purchase.
I can just fix what I have cheaply for the time being until I 'm ready to purchase the real thing. After your post , it seams like the logical thing to do. Thanx .
I know someone running the Dynatech's w/Maggnaflow cats and consider that to be real thing. I know a few people running Kooks as well and have heard no complaints. There expensive but that's the way to go it seems if you want quality and less hassles down the road.
I'm a believer , you get what you pay for..
Thanks again for answering.

hey brew, i was just thinkin a shop could make you one small piece if you even needed it.
as for all the assaults on OBX quality, wow?
i have a buddy who went to college to be a welder so i'll have him take a minute to inspect the welds. i did myself and they all look rather well.
so i have a better idea, why dont ya'll complain about pacesetters headers as well and try to tell everyone to spend well over $800 on kooks or dynatechs? bet that sounds like less fun. i mean come on your making it sound like OBX is the only crap manufacturer out there
anyways, how thin are you thinking it is?
brew, my arms as close to 100% as its gonna get now. its still a throbber out of the blue but its in better shape overall now than my other wrist is. oh yeah, arm pump when ridings real killer now lol.
