What do these codes really mean?

Howdy,

I finally got myself a code ready for my 1990 F150 with a 5.0 and manual drive.

Here's the codes I received. I looked them up but I really don't have a clue what needs to be fixed and if I can do the jobs myself, without taking out a second mortgage.

KOEO TEST:
67 O - Neutral Pressure Switch (NPS)
85 O - Canister Purge Circuit Failure
22 C - MAP or BARO Sensor out of range

Thanks for any help!

First off., what problem are you trying to solve that prompted you to pull the fault codes, ie drivability, DEL, emissions test, etc??

DTC 22 indicates that there was a problem with the output of the MAP/BARO sensor either during driving or suring the self-test.

DTC 67 is usually due to the test operator leaving the A/C turned on during self-test.

DTC 85 usually means the CANP solenoid is unplugged or the solenoid is defective.

It only takes a paperclip to pull codes on '84-95 Ford EFIs.

I agree - you left the A/C on, there's some fault in the CANP circuit, and you have some vacuum leaks. The CANP wiring usually rubs on the intake, so it's probably worn thru, and the vacuum reservoir (coffee can) often rusts through or cracks.

This thread describes exactly how to pull EEC-IV codes, in detail.

I was having some poor idling problems; therefore, I thought it could be something that the computer could diagnose. I mainly wanted to get to the KOER test, but once I saw the error codes from the KOEO , I figured it wouldn't do me much good to run the engine run test.

I'll check the A/C, but I'm pretty sure I didn't have it on, especially for the fact that I'm out of freon and doesn't do me much good now.

I'll also take a look at the smog canister and lines. I didn't notice any bad lines when I was cleaning the throttle body and intake yesterday.

thanks

The A/C is "on" when the **** is at NORM, MAX, MIX (or HI/LO), or DEFROST. To turn it off, the **** must be at OFF, VENT, or HEAT. Doesn't matter if there's any refrigerant in the system or not.

Where exactly is the CANP located on the 5.0?

I believe I'm getting the 22 error due to the conversion that was made on the truck, moving to a MAF system.

One other question...on my other post where I was asking about the smog pump inlet and exhaust ports. At that time the inlet was sucking and the outlet was blowing. I just noticed last night that I'm not getting any air coming out of the exhaust port/muffler. Does air always coming out of this thing or only when the vehicle reaches a certain temp?

Oh and I finally got myself a new IAC. I'll be slapping that on this weekend.

Thanks
