What is this and should they be hooked to something?

Howdy,

Trying to figure out if I have a vacuum issue, I discovered a couple things that don't quite look right or at least to me.

This image was taken standing from the passenger side fender of the vehicle.
The one hose has pretty good vacuum on it while the engine is running (I can hear it going down the road at 60mph+). The other thing with the flared end blows out a good amount of air.

The next thing that I'm puzzled about is the little plug that sits below the objects shown in the top image. Seems like a hose should be connected to this.

Anyone have an idea if this is normal and what in the world are they. The vacuum line and the empty plug type connector are the main ones.

Thanks!
-Ed

what kind of vehicle yuh got there?

I have one of those - it's like a check valve deal on my truck - its linked in between my intake and IAC. That tube thats ported in the intake just before the throttle body .

That looks like a IAC connector in your pic.

I can't look yours up because you didn't say what year and type of motor you have, sorry...

Good point J.

I totally forgot the most important part. The truck is a 1990 F150 XLT RC 4wd with a 5 speed. The engine is a 5.0L with a Cobra EFI.

Thanks!

The corrugated paper hose is the intake for the smog pump; the metal muffler is the waste.

.

Without seeing the back of that other connector, I can't ID it. Does it have wires or a tube? What color?

Great, thanks for the info. Looks like things are in order. The smog pump intake seems awfully loud heading down the freeway. Must be alot of smog.

I looked at the other unidentified part and it's actually is just a cap attached to a plastic tab; maybe an extra cap for something.

Thanks again!

I should have posted this here...

I noticed last night that the "the metal muffler" is no longer blowing any air out. Is this something that only occurs when the engine reaches a certain temp or is something wrong with my air pump?

Thanks

"No longer..."? After what event?

The emissions systems aren't something that need your constant attention - they do what they're programmed to do. If there's a problem, the CEL will let you know. If it's so subtle that the EEC doesn't detect it, don't worry about it until there's some driveability symptom.

No longer blowing air out when the engine is running. No CEL shown; therefore, I won't worry about it unless it come on.

Thanks
