I just put in royal purple a few days ago and have seen maybe a .5 mpg increase, but can't give any firm results for a while. I know a lot of people run mobil 1, but I found the royal purple to be a little cheaper than that. So I figured I'd give it a shot. But both are supposed to be really good.

Amsoil is the best but if you are not going to use extended intervals you will be spending lots of your money. If you are going to stick with 3 - 5K intervals use Motorcraft 5W-20, an excellent oil.

I use the 0W-30 severe service Amsoil and have never had blowby. Which one did you use?

5 W30 .. I should mention , I was contstantly pulling the truck in a warm shop from the cold when this happened - hooking it up to a snorkle and had long idle times and also my dipstick had a hole in it behind the manifold that I didn't catch till later..

That doesn't sound like it was the brands fault then.

That doesn't explain blow by... I'm not a fan of castrol but if it doesn't blow it out, then you need to stick with it!

I didn't want to say it because it always stirs up people, but I think that synthetic oils are crap, and I wouldn't pour that junk on my go-kart chain. But it's your engine so.... I've never put synth in my truck, so it may not break it. But I'm not brave enough to try. In all seriousness, synth probably won't hurt your truck. So if you feel better to run it, go ahead. Today's engines are not picky about oil.

Ya, people around here get their panties in a wad whenever a dino vs. synthetic oil question comes up. Some say dino works fine and don't fix what isn't broke. Others say synth gives better mileage(there's a lot of junk "science" to that IMO) and longer engine life.

If you hate changing oil and don't do any big time hauling/loads, then synth is fine, it'll save you a few oil changes. But for hauling the oil needs to be changed regularly, so stick with dino and you'll save money. I don't think either is any better at protecting your engine, it's your choice.

But Amsoil 2-stroke oil is awesome. I use it in my jetski and sleds and you get a noticeable boost in performance with less smoke. Don't know about their 4-stroke stuff though.

I used honda's synth 2 stroke oil in my CR-250R which had a HORRIBLE habbit of fouling out the plugs if you didn't run the thing WIDE OPEN. My dad kept telling me to try a tank mixed with regular boat oil. He said he had the same problem with his bike when he was younger. After much reluctance, I tried it, and it hasn't had a fouling problem since. If anyone needs a case of honda 2 stroke synth, let me know...

I am VERY happy that you have had good results from the amsoil. It must be better than honda's crap oil.

If you want to be lazy go ahead and use the synths every 5k, I just use havoline 5w20 and change every 2500. but thats just me and thats the way I've always taken care of my trucks
