ESPECIALLY for your tranny, go get the stuff that was made for it. MOTORCRAFT. If you buy any other brand, it "might" not have the same viscous properties, and that can cause tranny trouble. Engines are tough. (ford) Trannies are tookey. You might get away with another brand, but I woudn't risk it with my truck.

Oil

You are also running 7 quarts vs 5 for a Dodge so it will stay clean a little longer. My first oil change from new was at 2700 miles and I used Castrol GTX 10/30 the next change at around 5200 miles is Mobile 5/20 and the truck will always run on synthetic. I plan to change the trans to Syn (Mobile) at around 30K or so plus do my diff at the same time. OIL is cheap, parts are not.

You have a 2006? Whats the service manual say about the trans? You still need to service @ so many miles?

No 5.4L runs 7 quarts. A 5.4L will hold a 6 quarts when you replace the filter w/oil change .. BTW this is a Ford forum not a dodge one.. Why did you use 10w 30 , you better let dealership change your oil since you can't manage to put the right stuff in.. - What's the manual not good enough for you, That's why I asked last night and you ignored my question - that spelled it out for me and I know you seen it , when you click on who's on - it showed you were on and viewing the thread after I posted - older trucks use 5 w 30 , newer 5w 20..

Your running full synthetic in a newer motor ?? Y? To bad for that motor..You better off just sticking to OEM products instead of trying to outsmart the engineers who designed the motor , before you F up a good thing..You'll prolly still run Syns - Pull your valve covers in about 20,000 miles and look inside at the top of the valve covers..

I can't believe your going to start screwing with the trans... Flushing out the OEM stuff at 30k - Listening to chester is your best bet there..

Freakin NoItAlls......

Thanks for the advice, and I know when to take good advice... Does motocraft make synthetic tranny fluid or does the regualr stuff work fine?

Thanks

I don't know what the motorcraft trans fluid is made of, but it is what your trans was built to run on, so.... When you go to buy your oil, just tell them what year, model, etc, and they'll give you the right stuff!

Hopefully

You could put trans fluid in your engine, and it wouldn't know the difference.

Times change - My 2002 5.4 called for six quarts, but my 2006 5.4 calls for seven quarts (straight from the owner's manual). Both trucks are Lariat SCREW 4x4's. The 2006 is the three valve/cyl engine.
