Fords Definitely the reliability winner - not trying to start anything , but the spark plug issue is horsechit - three threads holding some one's plugs in ?- lol that's bull, so I don't believe it - My 98 has 6 1/2 threads , always has. Making stuff up to flame on a manufacture is old news on this issue. 200,000 miles on my 5.4 4x4 is enough proof for me. Doesn't burn or leak oil.
I worked at both tracks GM proving grounds Milford 2001 and Fords Dearborn proving grounds 2004-2005 . There's a world of difference between the two which supports the reliability aspect.

last i checked all car dealerships (including Toyota and Honda) have a big service department out back. Every brand has its problems

horsepower sells, ask Dodge

in a competitive market you better be able to match your competitor. Chevy is preparing to do battle with the 370 to 380 hp Toyota and wants to trump the rising sales of Dodge.

My 98 has 6 1/2 threads , always has.
i would like to know how you looked down that hole and counted the threads, i changed plugs on my 5.4 and basically I had little advantage over a blind man, the plug is a good 3 to 4 inched down a narrow hole. holefully you are not counting the threads on the plug itself.

I think the Chevy news is great! Nothing like competition to make a company improve on it's product. I expect Ford will respond to the challenges to maintain it's claim as "Best in Class". Remember, without the F150, Ford would go belly up real fast, so it's very important that they answer the improvements made by other manufacturers. As the Titan surely sparked the improvement in the new models, I'm sure the new chevy will force Ford to improve upon, what is now, a great truck. Competition is a good thing.

I have attached info from the Chevrolet webpage below on the new v8 avaible in some of the new 1/2 ton trucks. When will ford come out with an answcer for this? I dont think (correct me if im wrong) that my 06 5.4 3 valve will even produce this much power jacked up on Troyer tunes.
Just venting a little....feel free to chime in.

Vortec MAX 6.0L V8 Engine

Vortec MAX 6.0L V8 engine features:

* From the family of redesigned Gen IV Vortec V8 engines
* Thundering 367 horsepower @ 5500 rpm
* 375 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4300 rpm
* More horsepower than any other half-ton 4x4 pickup(1)
* More torque than any light-duty engine offered by Ford(1)
* EPA estimated 15 city/19 highway MPG in 2WD and 4x4 models
* Deep inside the combustion chamber of Vortec engines, high-speed air movement generates a better fuel-to-air mixture
* Variable Valve Timing (VVT) technology that optimizes combustion, enhances low-end torque and high-end power, promotes fuel efficiency, and helps lower emissions
* A cast-iron crankshaft with undercut and rolled fillets
* High-flow cast-aluminum cylinder heads that feature a low-friction roller-rocker valvetrain
* Electronic Throttle Control provides outstanding throttle response, greater reliability and improved efficiency
* A faster, smarter Engine Control Module with more memory that better synchronizes the multitude of engine operations that occur every split second
* Hydraulic engine mounts for improved vibration isolation
* A coil-near-plug ignition system for a precise delivery of high-energy spark

1. Based on 2006 GM Large Pickup segment and latest available competitive information. Excludes other GM vehicles.
I thought you ought to know that the 2004 and later 150's have all of these same features and more.

The Ford 5.4L 3V engine uses a “SOHC” Single Over Head Cam, "Extra-Hard” Aluminum-Lead Silicon Alloy main bearings, “High-Silicon” Hypereutectic Aluminum Alloy-Graphite Skirt Coated Strutless Modified Barrel pistons, Moly Plasma Filled low-friction rings, sintered iron valve seats and inserts, roller finger cam followers, Cracked Powdered Metal connecting rods, Forged Steel Crankshaft, Coil on Plug Ignition System, Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection, Variable Cam Timing, Charge Motion Control Valves, Electronic Throttle Control, Composite Metal oil pan, Magnesium Valve Covers, Cold Air Intake, Aluminum Heads, 3 Valves per Cylinder, liquid filled engine mounts, on Ward’s 10 Best Engines list, and much more. All of which impresses me as a more sophisticated truck engine design than most anything out there.

me and my family have always been ford fans, i used to have a focus and i sold it with over 100,000 miles with no problems, and those cars are not supposed to be as reliable as others, right now i have a 99 expy and its great, well it only has 73,000 miles, my father has a 2006 explorer with only 20,000 miles and no problems, his work truck is a 98 ford ranger 3.0 v6 with 310,000 tough miles and the only problem is that it needs a new clutch, but come on with all that mileage is usuall wear and tear. my mother has a freestar with 40,000 miles and it feels great.

so ill always be a ford man,

my friend has a 2000 chevy z71 with 60,000 miles no problems at all only the abs light keeps going on and off, but i just dont like it, the dashboard is way way too square like an old car. i just dont like chevy, but i rather chevy than dodge, or any foreign car.

I remember a year ago when the 6.0L was listed as an option for Chevys, no doubt it stirred up Fords thinking, I'm hoping to see another optional Triton Motors engine with atleast 360+ h/p & 380+lbs torque, I Hope Ford does it!!!

They made a whole bunch of improvements in the 2004 and later F150's. But, I would like to see the 6 speed automatic out of the Navigator, the intergrated tow braking system from the F-250 and larger rotors on the front end and a system to shut down a few cylinders when not in use to up the gas mileage. Opps, and move the turn signal lever down a inch or two. :-)

Yuh shove a bright a$$ light up your tail pipe and position your eyeball over the chamber and focus on it. If you can count past 3, consider yourself educated, a little.... -

Oh - Make sure your at TDC , get the best light that way.

Seriously- I did the headgaskets two years ago, I know for a fact the 3 thread count is bull. - (I'm just sayin for those curious, but not a smarta$$)

Anyway, I'm not buying a damn new truck every time the manufacturers get into a pissing contest. Just buy a 2001 and put in a built block and built tranny then blow the hell out of it. If it's not cheaper, it's close.

I had a feeling that I would be pouring gas on this age old fire! I love my ford. I think I liked my 02 better than my new 06 but it will match up in time.....enough mods will fix anything right? Just thought their claims were cute. Smart $ says they dont run that on the dyno.

I just put my finger down the sparkplug hole and count the threads with my fingernail. Enough of that Does anyone have any chevy websites like this one? I would like to read about their problems to compare wth ours.
It wears on me to read about spark plugs, head gaskets, exhaust studs etc. Basic engines seem very good, too bad engineers missed on these very simple things.. I've had many Ford's the first being a 49' 2-dr. and have 3 now.

You got to be kidding me! Eveyone knows chevy owners cant stand one another........you'd have to hire the entire marine corp to moderate that board!
