Exclamation Newbi to forum 5.4 question 01 f150 supercrew

I have already bought a 2001 supercrew, 109,000 miles. I have always bought used, but never one with this many miles. The truck is very clean, lots of light scratches, they will buff out. But the miles are what makes me nervous. I had it checked out at a mechanic shop, he has Fords, he says that it was a good deal. I figured I would rather hear from ford owners. I had no idea, f-150's were so popular.

I bought it for $10,400.00 It is also the Lariat package.

-- So did I do OK, what kind of engine longevity should I expect? it already has 109,000, I am praying for 200,000 Plus. I follow maintenance schedules very well (i hope the previous owners did).

-- What kind of gas mileage should I get? I am @ 12-13 city now HWY 16

-- I installed a K&N should that help?

anyway, thats all for now, thanks for reading. Steve

Your gas mileage is right in line with everyone's here I believe. You have no idea how the last people took care of this truck. Its up to you how long it lasts. Regular maintenance, oil changes every 3k this truck should last 250k easy. Free flowing intake and exhaust won't hurt, but don't expect miracles from these. A programmer and e-fans are your best best to free up some HP and MPG. Maybe 2-3 MPG with these changes.

that seems like a better then average deal. But still not quite a "steal" Now you get to figure out what gen of 01 you have. There were 3 different 01 models offered throughout the year, so thats how you get the 3 different generations.

And you should easily see 200k with proper maintance

I'd say if your not adding quarts of oil between oil changes and no puddles under it after being parked I'd say you'll be just fine. Usually it's the other little things that go wrong like alternator, water pump hoses, power window motors, radio, AC, etc.

Alot of folks think that when a vehicle reaches 100K miles it's going to drop dead at the next stop sign and they are quick to get rid of it. I like when the odometer turns over cause I feel like it's brand new. So don't worry about something you can't control cause I see alot of new cars in the repair shop too and they paid 4 to 5 times more than you

I paided 12K for an 02 with 92K back in July now it's over 96K and i should be in the 100K club by march!!
I like my 89 f150 so much I kept half of it and she had over 250K too.

I've got a 175,000 miles on my '98, and it has been flawless. I just did the SeaFoam treatment aswell as cleaned the MAF and idle air sensors this weekend, and it is running as well as it was when new. I'd take a look at the filters/sensors and the ignition (plugs/wires/coil packs) if your having any concerns. If you'll stay on top of all of the peripherals, the engine life itself will impress you.

Generally genII or genIII are better just b.c they werent the first of breed on the screws. but ford knew what they were doing by 01 as far as the powertrain etc. You shouldnt have any weird problems with yours. onlything ive heard is the moon roof needing to be replaced, but that may have already been done. What kind of service/maintance records do you have on your truck?

I have noticed a staining, with a sticky textures around the moon roof, like glue seeping through the head liner. I boought it from a used car dealer, and have NO records, only the car-fax that I did. 2 days after buying, I had the trans flushed, fuel filter replaced and oil changed. Also added a K&N air filter. I had it inspected at a friends garage (well respected in our town) who also HATES the seller, so he was very honest, he found NO issues what so ever. All greas fitting were full, and appeared to have been that way. So I am going on trust here. The trucks receiver hitch did not even have paint worn off the inside, so I do not believe it has pulled much. Thanks
