Talking Woooo! Yeah!

Why do you guys hate so much? This is a give give relationship; I give you something to spend some of your "valuable" time on, and you give me a good laugh! Great posts guys, but I can take alot more abuse than that.

...and thanks for the info.

Actually being marginalized is something I deal with everyday at work. But man when the network goes down they don't give me crap.

My brother did a stand alone on his 95 Mustang, it's a kit with either a basic build yourself printed circuit for 2-300 or an assembled for 500 or so. I believe it's called Mega squirt, sounds gay but works cool. He got a used laptop from ebay, built this program etc, it took a while to tune, but runs good now. I don't know if you could do the same, but it's worth looking into. He had to do something because he eliminated some stuff, like an override, it's a 306ci and has alot of crazy go fast crap. It's pretty trick, but a little overkill. I'm sure the cams are available from Sean Hyland or JDM or even Troyer, see what they say. Locally we have Livernois Motorsports and they know lots too. Pauls High Performance, and Alternative Motorsports are local (Detroit). Alternative's name I believe I got right, maybe automotive instead of motorsports.

I agree, have a look at the megasquirt system. Although I have not personally used the megasquirt system yet, I am planning to convert my boat from carburated to TBI fuel injectioned this spring...hopefully having things ready by Memorial Day weekend. For more info see:

http://www.megamanual.com

It is the information (and I mean LOTS of information) page setup by the megasquirt creators. It also has links to places from which you can purchase the components. I personally think it looks like the best way to go for a fuel injection conversion, or a brand new custom engine controller. Be prepared to do some homework...maybe even consider taking a class at the local university on engine management systems. This is NOT a plug and play device.

If you do try out the megasquirt system, please post your experiences. Also, head on down to the pre-1997 models forum. There is a gentleman there goes by PJF that is dropping a custom turbo'ed 4.6 liter in his 1995 F-150. Really cool setup, and he is using the megasquirt ECU last I checked. He even has a video posted of the motor running in the early install time frame.

Two cents worth, maybe a little more,

Mike

There is NO reason to go with a standalong engine management system in a near stock 2004+ F150. Nobody out there has a product that can work with the drive by wire and the variable cam system in these trucks to my knowledge.

If you want to have control over the vehicle, get a Xcal2 and the pro racers package, this will be all you need to have datalogging on the computer you install, and be able to adjust the tune in the stock truck.

Ford puts millions of dolllars into developing the factory calibration, so starting with this, and then tuning from it, will result in FAR better drivability than starting from scratch and tuning it all yourself with megasquirt.

I would have the same opinion if I did not work for a tuning company.
