Just put a turbo (like a rear-mounted STS which is relatively easy to install) or a bower on it?
Seems easier than swapping engines and the gains will be huge.

a friend of mine has this in a 89 notch back with a T76 turbo hanging off it, on pump gas he put down 770 to the wheels
