Change Max Speed

Hello All,

I tested the top speed of my 2005 F150 FX4 and it would only do 105mph. Is there an easy way to remove the limiter? If not how much and how?

Thanks

Tom

Well, you can always get a chip or tuner..... Chips on E-bay usually run $200+ Tuners maybe $300+

One thing to note.... Some F-150s are prone to pull the driveshaft out of the tranny at high speeds...... My neighbor's truck did that.

The biggest thing to worry about when raising the limit is tires being driven a speeds exceeding their speed rating. If you have the stock tires on it, they're only rated for 105, hence the limiter. Should you raise the limiter, I hate to think about what would happen should a tire blow out at 115-120. I'm sure it wouldn't be pretty.

Would it really be all that different at 105mph? lol.

I guess I'll just keep it under 100.

My truck cruises at really high speed though. It is just so smooth.

Thanks

An engineer somewhere determined what the limit for the tire is. I'll trust it.

No, there probably wouldn't be much of a difference with a blowout. However, there is far less chance of the tire blowing out in the first place when operated within its design limits. Unless you know something about the tires that the engineer that designed them didn't, I wouldn't recommend exceeding the max speed rating on the tire.

Good idea to keep it under 100. I know mine is good for 200 km/h, but let's say that was a lucky lesson, both with the popo and mechanically. I think a week or two later, my tie rod broke off, going slow mind you. I was just bieng a kid. Vettes and Porsches are meant for high speeds, not office buildings on wheels. Stay safe brothers and sisters.

I know it's fun to go fast, but I agree with blue about keeping it under 100.. It may be a ford, but it's just a truck.... IF you gotta go fast, I would suggest that you look into that driveshaft issue. I know that happens cause I've seen it,and you might want to do it on a track, cause they will take your lisence away (ask my girlfriend... she was going 84mph in a 55) and they might even put you in jail. And if you wreck and somebody dies, you can be charged with manslaughter. Just makin sure you understand the risks..... Other than that, Go for it!
