Okay, first question is, why are you replacing the PCM?

And yes, they have to be programmed via a Ford scan tool.

There are several software revisions. You will have to have the computer repflashed by a dealership.

Where did you get the replacement from?

this is a flood from katrina and the pcm had some water in it not completly but i'm replacing all electric parts that have to do with saftey and drivetrain. so the pcm is one thing that i have purchased to replace truck runs pretty good with old pcm but it worries me to thinck about leaving it in there.

If it has had time to dry out, use it and don't worry.
Water around the spark plugs will give you more problems than the PCM.
The PCM board and parts are fairly well sealed.

I would worry more about the GEM then the PCM.

The GEM does not seem to have a sense of humor about getting wet from the windshield leaks ( if it has one that is ) and if the truck had enough water in it to soak the PCM on the firewall, the GEM might have also been under water.

the pcm had some things that were burt and one of the injectors is open all the time i hope replacing the pcm will fix the injector problem but i know it may not but after i'm sure the pcm is good ( i'm taking to dealer tomorrow to have new pcm reprogramed ) then i will start to fix the other problems if any and thanks for pointing out about the gem i have not looked at that yet but will find it and if any water was in it or close i will replace it as well
