K.N air filter good/bad
Warning to all K&N air filters that go in the stock airbox DO NOT use a felt surround as directed by the Ford engineers. This means it will NOT have a proper air seal when it gets hot. This means that air (and unwanted particles) can enter your engine UNFILTERED.
If you want a "K&N style" drop-in filter that is made right, go GREEN.

Similar idea as the K&N, but with a better design. If you can't find the exact filter on their site, email or call...they have it. I have one in my truck.

Called K&N about the screwed up gasket that keeps coming off and they are going to swap my old for a brand new filter, no questions asked. All I wanted was a new gasket and some better adhesive that they apparently offer, but I will take that even better. Standing by their product, which is great to begin with, I highly recommend. Just thaught I'd dig up on this old thread.
basic walmart fram air filters
All that i ever have used in any of my vehicles are the basic 5 dollar Fram air filters that they sell at Wal-Mart.. Does anyone know how good these filters actually filter? I've never really noticed any problems while using them, but i just wanted to know what other peoples experiences have been with them...
Hey guys after seeing all these posts I did not get a foam gasket with my K&N. Think I will check on their site and see if I can e-mail them or give them a call in the morning.
Lumdar are you saying we should not be using the felt gasket then. Just want to be sure that is what you are saying because I never got one with my new filter.

Last year my AirRaid Cold Air Intake turned out to be a HOT AIR INTAKE. All you guys with tuners and ScanGauges that give the IAT reading (Intake Air Temp) can verify this yourselves. I bought a Radio Shack digital thermometer with 2 remotes. I put one remote in the grill next to the left headlight where the outside air comes in and the other inside the K&N filter. City driving on a 80F day in San Diego the headlight remote registered 80-85F (go & stop). The filter remote registered 100-115F (go & stop) and the ScanGauge IAT registered the same 100-115F so that proved to me that the IAT readings on the ScanGauge were accurate and I was indeed using a HOT AIR INTAKE. On the freeway the CAI worked a little better. The headlight remote registered a steady 80F while the filter remote and ScanGauge IAT showed a steady 95F. This test added to the annoying whistle at idle, the hassel of cleaning the filter and MAF sensor was the final straw. After 3-4 years of using the AirRaid I replaced my stock intake and paper filter. I noticed a definite improvement in performance and it took awhile to figure out why. Even tho I had cleaned the MAF 2 previous times the freshly oiled K&N was just refouling it right away. I know...too much oil, but how do you know it's too much? What if it's not enough and you suck up a bunch of dirt? I don't have time for that *****. Now for the temp test. 75F day, headlight remote 75-80F. ScanGauge IAT 90-95F. On the freeway BIG DIFFERENCE, headlight remote 75F. ScanGauge IAT 75F. I kid you not. That stock intake is the best!
