Whatever, I hear something and it sticks, and for some dumb reason I thaught that was it, my bad! Awesome engines though. I have a 514 ci in a 64 galaxie right now, but next car gets a 390 or 427. At the time, FE stuff was just starting to become popular and expensive so the 385 series was the logical choice. That's why I put that one in. But gents, let's not forget the Boss 429 and the fact that you can buy aftermarket blocks now. Food for thaught!

The Thunderbolt was a 64 Frairlane that came with a 427 but not the 427 Sohc. Ford built 100 of them to homologize them so they would be considered a factory built car for racing. they were awesome drag racing machines.

If I remember right, the sohc was a direct assault on the hemi for nascar. Itturned out to be great for nhra, as did the hemi. Nascar told Ford no dice.

I know a guy who put one in his Cobra replicar that I built for him. If I remember right, it measured about 3' from its fartherest points on the valve covers across the front of the engine. I think he said there is over 25' of timing chain in them. Heres thre best part...he told me when Ford stop making the 427 SOHC motor, he bought the molds for the front timing cover, the heads, intake, and bought all the remaining inventory of special to the motor parts like 700 sets of pistons, so he can build these motors until the parts run out. This was in 1989-90. Back then he was figuring atleast $12,000 each. I plan on calling him maybe this summer to see if I cant get one for my 68 Mustang fastback Shelby style restomod. Right now my 68 fastback has a 1993 Mark8 DOHC all aluminum modular motor in it.
