I did this almost this exact same thing. I put a pontiac 400 into a 84 Chevy. I had to buy a adapter plate to bolt the tranny up to the pontiac motor, but it worked flawlessly. I had to put new motor mounts and change some misc wiring, but it ran very strong. Hope this helps.

My first car was a 1969 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with the 455 Rocket motor. Let me tell you what -- that "fother mucker" moved out for a big car! Your buddy will have one potent little vehicle if he moves ahead with his plan!

Of the 455's, the Olds was the best, followed by Pontiac, and then Buick, but all three were kick *** engines. The Olds had the longest stroke.

As mentioned, this swap will require an adapter plate for the tranny, and new mounts. Otherwise, it shouldn't be hard at all.

I had a 455 1970 Olds 88 and a 455 1974 Olds 98. Both were very strong engines.
