Problem

I was jacking up my truck and the jack slipped and ended up breaking a piece of the plastic fan shroud off. Now the fan shroud is broke into about three pieces and moves around. Should I just try and secure it with some zip ties or screws, buy a new plastic shroud, or remove the moving piece exposing some of the fan (probably not the best choise).

as long as the fan is ok, pull the pieces out that may fall into the fan and see how the temp stays for a while. depending on the size of the hole it may not really effect it.

can you show us a pic of it.

this may be a good excuse to get some electric fans from Troyer.

It should not move around. If you can secure it in a way thet will prevent it from moving and keep the blades from touching it then go ahead and do that. I will be easier just to remove it to make the repairs. If you are unsuccessful then replace it. You need a shroud if you are using the factory fan. Look in the classified ads to see if anyone is selling one. I have my old one that I am not using but I live in Canada. You could also try the local bone yards or http://car-part.com Search for a condensor/radiator mtd cooling fan. You should see some fan shrouds listed for a bout 50 bucks. Make sure you click on non interchangable parts ans use model year 97-03.

Thanks for the replies. I will try and secure it with some screws or zip ties. There are some holes on the bottom of the radiator which I can use and drill some holes in the plastic shroud and secure the two together.
