Removed Catalytic Converters

I know this thread is kinda out of place, but I need some info. I have a 97 f-150, and one of my catalytic converters cracked open. I was gonna replace it, but they cost $1100, so I just cut both of them off. I've heard horror stories about doing this, but it runs fine, and I don't have any lights. Will this mod hurt my truck?

the o2's should be in front of ur cats.. i dont kno about 97's but i have two in front of the cats ( they control the computer settings) and 2 in the rear.. they dont effect the comp they only come on if the cats are bad ( too much gases flowing past them. if u want cats.. people have their own opinion of having them or not.. it gets pretty bad on some posts but im not leaning either way but anyways i bought some catco cats for my 91 gmc for 45 bux each. they lasted 5 years til i sold the truck and someone cut them off and ran the exhaust up the hood for a mud truck so they were pretty good. easy to install

Well I guess I'm not the only one. I read about some people having a power loss because of them. I really can't tell a difference, other than the deep grumble.

The horror stories may have been fines or imprisionment for removal of the cats...

http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl408d.htm

Or the real horror story will be when you meet Verl and Earl.

They will want to hear all about your John Deere tractors and
will wan't to hear you "Squeal like a pig".

I didn't ask if it was legal or not. People on this site are constantly bragging about racing people on the street, endangering innocent driver's and their families, chiping trucks to increase top end, and you want to give me a hard time about taking my exhaust system apart!!!!! I doubt very seriously that I'll be arrested by the catalytic converter police here in south Georgia!

Yeah, that's a lot cheaper. If they had quoted me that, I might have done it, but the 2 strait pipes were VERY cheap.

highflows are waste of money... stock cats flow just as good if not better.. atleast ford ones do.

Oh come on now Chester. You would have entered this thread with something like "While were on the subject of horror stories ...".

If you do ever visit a prison sometime, stay away from stories about Lubrication.

Mine probably didn't with 150,000 miles on them. Sounds better with hi-flows also.

Yeah, I guess I had that one comming! But seriously, there's no emissions inspections where I live so, who's gonna crawl under my truck to see if I have cats? I have a v8 jeep and it's running strait manifolds, and nobody's said anything about it. And if they have, I couldn't hear them anyway!!

I was thinking about leaving my stock muffler on the truck and adding headders. I though it might give it a nice ring, especially since the cats are now gone. Is it worth it, or is it a waste of money?

Yeah, and folks probably won't notice if I quit taking my used oil, used transmission fluid and used antifreeze to the recycle/hazard materials locations here and just dump them in the storm drains down the block (at night of course). I might as well just throw away my lead batteries in the trash also (Wouldn't want the kiddies to be deprived of brain damage). Ah, its such a relief not to have to worry about the welfare of my fellow human beings on the planet anymore.

Goodbye conscience, hello pollution.

What do you think putting NOS and Xcal 2's and blowers and hi flo injectors and etc.... do to help pollution levels? All in the name of fun. And you want to sit her and make fun of me because I didn't have $1100 bucks for a cat. You know what, I probably won't ever put hedders on it cause I don't have the dough, and if I did, I could put that money towards a new truck. So quit giving me a hard time about it!!!!!! You sound like you really care about the environment. I'm sure you recycle all your plastics and glass that you use, and I bet you've never smoked you tires, and you sure didn't cut down any trees to build your house!

Oh, and you know what lots of that used oil gets used for? They sell/give it to road paving companies and they dump it on the ground to make a foundation for roads, and they burn it in asphalt machines.
