I just replaced the moto in my 99 F150 5.4l with 170000 miles on it. I did this because I got a deal on a motor and the fact that I drove the other motor to death and wanted to rebuild but to rebuild cost a $1000 more than the motor I bought. I hope to get another 200,000 mile out of this one.

I have a 2000 5.4L 4X4 Lariat. I have 155,000 miles on this truck. It looks great and runs great. I do use oil intermittently, about a quart between oil changes. I bought the truck used at 25,000 miles. I have had the truck for 4 years and have not had any serious problems with it. Keeping up with the maint. is the key.

I have 91K on my 01 and everything is original. I am fixing to change the plugs. The truck runs like new. I plan on keeping my truck until at least 200K.

97 Lariat 4X4 5.4 SC LB, with 180K. I bought the truck new in Oct 96. Been the best vehicle I have ever owned, even better than the previous 83 F150 XLT 4.9L with over 250K on it!

Two trucks in 23 years. They keep paying for themselves!

My '01 5.4 Super Crew is at 162,000. The past 18 months has been towing fairly regularly a trailer that pushes the recommended limits (about a 700# cushion). Blew an original plug at approx. 40,000 but that has been the only one.

It's been great overall and still runs well for the most part, but very recently it began starting, sputter like it's not getting gas, then die. Sometimes it will start on the next attempt. Other times, it's taken 5 or 6 tries. This is sporadic...it will start normally for weeks, then pull this. Never when the engine is cold, it's always after traveling then turned off for a couple of minutes. Repair shop thought it might be a clogged fuel filter. Nope. It goes back in next week.

Not related to the original question, really, but the '92 with a 5.0 has 367,000 on the original engine and still running great.

My '97 has 153,000 on it now. Interesting to hear about the blown plugs and that they were after a plug change..... I replaced my plugs @ 62,000 when I first got the beast and it's been fine ever since..... Oh, I didn't use any locktite and they are the dreaded Bosch +4 plugs too!! The first thing I noticed on those plugs is that they had threads running the entire length of plug. If I recall, the stock MC's only had them on the upper part and only like 5 threads or so??

Anyway, not meaning to make this the dreaded 'plug war', so I'll just say that the only things I've done over the years has been an alternator, #4 COP, belts, and I just replaced the upper and lower rad hoses because I do tow a #4500 TT and I wanted the preventive maintenance done on those things!! I do add a qt of oil at about 3000 miles, but I've done that since I first got it and on every other car I've owned. I do use Mobil 1 however and go 6000 between changes.

Mitch

1999 Extended Cab Short Bed 4x4 Off Road. 135,000 on original plugs and tranny. Synthetic fluids since purchase in '02. This truck has been used well and hard but servicing (besides the plugs) has not been neglected. Tranny shifts hard 1-2 and motor has intermitent tick when started cold. Not planning on ever selling this truck. When the motor and or tranny go, I will hopefully have a new truck and time to put in a 4R100 and 8 thread headed motor.

Good to hear of so many 5.4's running strong with high mileage on 'em. I'm only at 2,600 miles to date on my '05 so I have a long way to go
