Arrow High Mileage 5.4s

There has been a few threads posted lately about high mileage trucks, but almost everyone that replies has a 4.6. I'd just like to see if there are many 2-valve 5.4 trucks with high or relatively high mileage that are still going strong. My 02 has 70k now, am hoping to see at least 200k out of it.

Thumbs up

2000 5.4 with 130K. Doesn't use a drop of oil between changes. Oil/filter changed every 3000 miles. Runs like new and gas mileage is around 15 in the city and around 18 highway. Nothing has been done to engine except new plugs at 100K and 2 coils that went bad whenever I plowed through deep water after a heavy rain.

I'm about 800 miles away from hitting 100K on my 1997 4X4. I average about 13.5 on the Highway. Still using the original plugs, but will probably get them changed out come spring. I'm afraid to have them changed out actually because the plug blow-out issue.

I've got 172Kish on a '97 5.4 liter. Popped #3 plug at 110K-something, had to replace the DPFE and clean the ports once, one PCV hose, and it's got an exhaust leak with intermittent lean codes that I haven't got around to fixing yet. As far as I'm concerned, it's just getting broken in.

My 2003 has 48K but one of the guys I work with has a 1999 with 170K and the engine still runs good. He had to change one of the exhaust manifolds as it burned through and he has had the transmission rebuilt. Other than that he has done normal items such as battery, brakes, etc.

My dad's got about 150,000 miles on his 98 F250 LD with the 5.4L. He got it with 120,000 miles on it about three years ago, and it still runs great. He had to replace a front ball joint last year, and now needs to replace one of the catalytic converters, but other than that, it is a really great running truck.

I have a 97 F150 5.4L with 210,000 mile on it right now. Just had to replace the alternator last night. Other than that, blew #3 plug out at 92K. Haven't had any other problems with the engine Still has the factory water pump and hoses

02 5.4L here w/70k on it. Just had the transmission rebuilt, replaced #5 coil, replaced plugs, serviced diffs and t-case, air filter, fuel filter, radiator flush, induction cleaned, injectors flushed, throttle body/plenum cleaned....I'm good to go for another 100K.

For the 2 guy's that had the #3 plug blow,....were you 2 on the original plugs, or were they replaced prior to it happening?

I replaced mine with Motorcraft plugs approx. 30-40K (I think) prior to #3 popping out. Truth be told, I'm kinda gun shy now about doing them again.

I was about 20K into replacement plugs. I put a heliocoil in myself in the garage (plug blew as I was turning into the driveway to come home), an it cost me about $81 ($65 was for a new COP). Made me wary of the plug change, so I didn't change them again until about 200K.

It almost seems like a good idea using some kind of locktite on those threads. My trucks running good so I'm gonna prolong the spark plug change as long as I can.

The plug issues are scary. Good to see some high mileage trucks still going strong, though.

I have a 97 s/cab 4x4 5.4 with 150000 miles on it, a lot of which were hard miles pulling a 6500lb holiday trailer plus dirtbikes in the bed. Had some exhaust manifold issues but thats about it. Awesome truck.
