cruise control recall
cruise control recall
I received a card in the mail today from Ford telling me that parts for the cruise control recall will not be available in my area (Denver, Colorado) until february. I'm not really concerened about the problem, but how long does it take to make a jumper harness with a fuse in the middle of it?
Not very long, but it does takes a while to make about 3.8 million of them.
Some dealers have already been allocated small stocks of the fused jumper harnesses, but widespread availability of them won't be 'till February '06.

Origonally, they were due to be available the second week in Nov. That didn't make it out right, and the Feb date is the next estimate. If you have not been to a dealer to have it disconnected, I can tell you how to get it done with the unavailable fused harness now. They have several of the parts to fix it in stock, however, they are not installing them unless your CC switch is leaking brake fluid. IF YOUR SWITCH IS WET AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID THEY WILL FIX IT NOW. I don't know how to make it much clearer than that.
I had my truck in for state inspection on Wednesdy and the dealer offered to do the recall, they said that they were starting to receive some supply of parts. they are not repalcing the switch, they now installa short piece of wiring with a fuse in the circuit in case the the switch leaks and shorts out.

I got my card last week.
This was the concern I voiced in another thread.

I use my CC everyday and will not disconnect until repair parts are available (in hand).
I really don't want:
to pay for a fix,
or spread brake fluid around under the hood,
or have a jerry-rig fix done.
I've had the truck nearly seven years and hope it makes it however many more months it takes for the complete repair.
(I don't garage it.)

Dealers will fix trucks with or without leaking switches if they've got the appropriate parts in stock. Dealers have already been allocated a small stock of the fused harnesses. Trucks that have leaking brake switches get a 9F924 service kit with a new switch and harness. Check with your dealers for availabilty of either.
I put mine off until after November like the first letter said, then I got the card warning about the delay. I took it in last week and they had the part on hand and fixed it in about 45 minutes. In spite of what the "card" says, some dealers do have them in stock.
