Plugs were the first things to be changed. I also have replaced the plug boots.

Yes new plugs and the boots. Didn't make a difference.

Fuel filter???

I had this same problem with my 2003 Scab, 5.4 ltr. The engine would crank as normal but would sputter and die or just not start at all. Not all the time and there did not seem to be any method or pattern that could control it. The truck would start right up if I tapped the gas pedal on the second crank, but it did idle a little rough. No codes. I took the truck to the dealer as it was still under warranty, of course they "could not reproduce the problem." The service manager asked if I had replaced the fuel filter. I only had 15,000 miles on the truck at the time. I o.k.'ed the fuel filter change ( will never do that again, $40.00 for two minutes work and a five dollar filter). I have had no trouble since. The truck starts normally on the first turn of the key. Don't know it this is your problem, but it can be a cheap solution for you if you change your own filter and see what happens. I will be changing my filters every ten thousand or so from now on.

I didn't think about the filter I usually try and change them out every year, but don't remember if I did it this summer or not. I'll pick one up and this week and change it.

thanks,
Rob
