Heads and Cams

We have been doing a buildup on a 1998 f150. This truck has the 281 We have a procharger and more on this truck. The owner doesnt want to stoke the engine or bore it out. But he would like to have a good set of alm street/strip heads. And a good cam. I have been looking around for a cam and heads for this truck but they are about impossible to find. I wonder if 289-302 heads would work on this engine. I imagine that we could always bore it out to be a 289. I dont know, I think alot more modifacation would need to be done for that to work, So if any of you have any ideas about what we should do with this truck feel free to share.

Replace the current heads with a set of P I heads and you will gain about 50 hp with a requirement to use 91-93 octane fuel.

Completely different engine families. Nothing interchanges between the Triton (4.6/5.4) V8 and the Windsor (289/302/351) engines.

If you do a generic search on Google or MSN for 4.6 heads you find what you are looking for. Not all that hard.

Well I am not one to bash but if you cannot find cams for this truck you should not be touching it. Just about all the top name cam manufacturers have cams for the 4.6. Your own site has a link to Ford Racing. Ever thought to look there for heads? Do a google on modular performance heads and you will get a list. I sure as hell would not want to be your first customer.......

Good luck

Alright, well all I could find was mustang heads. I didn’t look very hard, but I figured that this place should be one of my first stops to ask because you guys have done this before. To be totally honest I haven’t even looked since that first day, we have been swamped with things to do and we have not been able to muff around on the internet. But I have another question stupid as it may sound to JMC, Is the mustang 4.6 blocks the same as the one that they put in the 4.6 trucks of 1998. If so I don’t know why we could not use Current Production 4.6L SOHC 2V Romeo engine aluminum cylinder heads. The only problem I see with that is that I don’t think that this truck has overhead cams. I assumed that it had the same setup as the older small blocks. Again I am sorry for wasting your time without doing any research first; I just thought that’s what this site is for.

As you can see there is a ton of suppliers that make high performance parts for the modular engine. You just have to search and look for them. I bought at least one thing from all the companies above when I built my "BUILT" 5.4. Here's a link to my build up, it might help you out :

I apologize for coming down hard on your operation but I find it disgusting that you cannot tell the difference between an OHV and OHC engine. Pop the hood and take a look. If you had even done that you would have seen an engine that is similar to the Mustang. And that is what gets my gall. You are plugging btdracing as your web site and you don't know squat about what you are doing. Does your customer know that you don't know Jack Shìt?

Who is Jack Schitt?

For some time many of us have wondered just who is Jack Schitt? We find ourselves at a loss when someone says, "You don't know Jack Schitt!" Well, thanks to my genealogy efforts, you can now respond in an intellectual way.

Jack Schitt is the only son of Awe Schitt. Awe Schitt, the fertilizer magnate, married O. Schitt, the owner of Needeep N. Schitt, Inc. They had one son, Jack.

In turn, Jack Schitt married Noe Schitt. The deeply religious couple produced six children: Holie Schitt, Giva Schitt, Fulla Schitt, Bull Schitt, and the twins Deap Schitt and Dip Schitt.

Against her parent's objections, Deap Schitt married Dumb Schitt, a high school dropout.

After being married 15 years, Jack and Noe Schitt divorced. Noe Schitt later married Ted Sherlock, and, because her kids were living with them, she wanted to keep her previous name. She was then known as Noe Schitt Sherlock.

Meanwhile, Dip Schitt married Loda Schitt, and they produced a son with a rather nervous disposition named Chicken Schitt. Two of the other six children, Fulla Schitt and Giva Schitt, were inseparable throughout childhood and subsequently married the Happens brothers in a dual ceremony. The wedding announcement in the newspaper announced the Schitt-Happens nuptials. The Schitt-Happens children were Dawg, Byrd, and Hoarse. Bull Schitt, the prodigal son, left home to tour the world. He recently returned from Italy with his new Italian bride, Pisa Schitt.

Now when someone says, "You don't know Jack Schitt," you can correct them.

No problem I have learned to take abuse. You are however right we have not worked on many 4.6l engines. This is only our second one. We have done many old school engines. That is my favorite, but the owner loves the newer engines. I am still amazed at how far they have come. He knows more about them than I do; all I get to do is work on the 427's and such. And I am not complaining. I looked it is a ohc. This is a good thing. Now its time to spend money.
