does anyone have a similar setup, and if so, which cam do you run, like to keep it dependable, just a mild towing cam or something similar to put this setup to good use. thanks.

Sounds like any mild RV cam will do. I prefer Comp Cams, Schneider, Crane and Lunati. Don't forget Ford Motorsports Racing either. Get a complete kit with matching lifters and new push rods. That way you know it will all work well together.

Is a hydraulic or roller? A semi-inexpensive way to add a few horses is to switch to roller if it is not already. Roller rockers have come way down in price in recent years too.

Something around 260 duration:
DESCRIPTION of a 260H Comp Cam
HYDRAULIC-Great torque for trucks, 4WD's and towing applications. Smooth idle. Best for tow vehicles with automatic. Smooth idle.

You can't get very wild in cam timing over the stock cam or very far past a 5L ho stock cam. The fire order is the old 302 order and not an HO order (351).
Reasons are your engine is speed density controlled and the injection is not SEFI. It is batch fire meaning it operates 4 injectors at a time.
It gets messey unless you do a FMS conversion to Mass Air, then about any cam can be used.

I have a 92 F150 with a 96 351, 0.30 over, cast iron GT40 heads roller rockers, with a M5R2 (5speed manual). I used a Crane Cam, I think they called a Compucam. It is a hydraulic roller specs are 0.530 lift 206 intake, 216 exhaust. I got it from Summit, if you are going there they list the same cam as a truck power cam for $100 more than the one in the Mustang section. It runs fine with the speed density computer. I did put 30 lb injectors though.
