Question Chevy Vs. Ford

I am hearing a lot about how Chevy's (Silverado) are Faster Than Ford's (F-Series)

I know the F-150's Biggest is a 5.4 Liter.
And Chevy has the 6.0 Correct?

But I've driven both and it feels like the chevy's Vortec is more of a pulling engine.

I would take a Ford Anyday, and still think they're faster. But Just wondering on how they matchup.

I have a 2000 F-150 Styleside with 5.4 Liter. Does 60 in About 6.5 seconds. Not too much to brag about, but nice when pulling out onto a busy road or Interstate.

GM pickups feel faster because they're lighter than a comparible F150 and they're pushrod motors; generally speaking, pushrod engines tend to favor the lower end of the RPM range than an overhead cam engine. How do they really stack up? Dunno, never bothered checking.

Go to Motor Trend magazine on-line. They've done numerous head to head reviews over the years.

Both trucks are evenly matched 0-60, but the much heavier Ford will be noticeably pulling ahead at the quarter mile marker.

well i own both. i have raced and owned fords and chevy's both. a 1997 ford f150 with a 5.4. and a 1999 chevy silvy with the 5.3. the 5.3 always won. now a 02 silvy which i just sold and an 04 screw. i understand the weight. but my 02 silvy to would walk on the 04. i even raced a buddies 04 ext cab f150 3v 5.4. the 02 silvy again walked on it. i am keeping the ford. but when it comes to modifying and making a truck fast the gm products will prevail due to the amount of mods and tuning available to them.

well this is my first post here and would like to say this is a nice looking site, how ever i am a chevy truck owner and a friend of mine just bought a 04 ford fx4 crew cab. and showed me this post, so i would like to post my track findings two weeks ago. There was a 97 tahoe running 18.2 consistant and the 04-05 ford ecsb truck was behind him everytime now im not sure what "V8" motor he had, but the guy with the tahoe was running with us so we knew his times.

On a side note i do believe the new fords are the best looking and handling trucks of the full size truck world, but the performance is lacking, im not here to rant on fords just trying to post up what i've seen at the track.

I'm a Ford guy. I am very fond of my truck. I do think that the GM may be faster. See, I don't think Ford is interested in having a fast pick-up. Just a useful one. Ford was on top with the Lighting for a while as far as fast pick-ups go. Now there is competetion in that segment. Ford has lost the crown but hopefully this will influence them to make us the baddest Lighting we've seen yet. Hopefully.

There are a few mods out there to get a Ford truck to go a bit faster.

Yes, the 5.3 Chevy's have some *****. With the same gearing and such, the 5.3 GM will usually take the 5.4 Ford.
The GM 5.7 350 is also pretty fast. One of my fav. modern engines. Not sure how it would stack up against a 5.4, but Im willing to bet it would be head to head, the GM probably pulling the Ford.
Not sure about the 4.8 GM Vs 4.6 Ford though.

The 4.3 V6 GM will take a 4.2 V6 Ford any day(geared the same, stock form etc) Those 4.3's have some pep.

i agree on the not making it fast thru ford. but if they would give it a little more power then we could be tops. but. i did buy this ford so that i wouldnt modify it as much. and i love the way it looks.

Guys,

I just sold traded a '04 GMC 4x4 a few months back. I can honestly say from experiance that the 5.3 GMC motor was faster than my 5.4 '03 FX4. Now saying that I will NEVER NEVER NEVER own a GMC product again. That was the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. The truck stayed in the service department more than it did in my driveway. Like a dummy I let the re-bates draw me to the GM side, and it will not happen again. My new/used '03 Ford is slower but more dependable and stronger all the way down to the lug nuts......... I am not trying to make any GM people mad, I am just telling my experiance and I think I earned that right with all the trouble GM has gave me in the last year.........................

The 5.3 Chevy is faster than the 5.4 as was mentioned, personally I could care less they're pick up's. Slap a 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer or a boat on them and the Ford is head and shoulders better, the 5.3 is constantly reaching for RPM's on even the slightest of inclines, the 5.4 is steady as she goes. The 5.3 is does get a little better mileage though.

Chevys usually will win when empty; horsepower. Fords will usually win when loaded or pulling; torque. These are trucks; so I'll take the torque. And I really don't care about faster.

Fords can be made to go faster. You just have to know where to look.

I traded an 02 Silverado Ext Cab in on my 05 SuperCrew. The Chevy was peppier on the low end but did not have the responsiveness at highway speeds. I got 74,000 trouble free miles out of it and hated to see it go. But, I love my Ford, it has better materials and is put together better. Also, I get about 1 MPG more out of my 5.4 than I did the lighter 5.3. The Chevy used to cost less but not now. I could not believe that in 05, GM reverted back to rear drum brakes to cut cost.

I absolutly love my 2000 Ford F-150 4x4 but when it comes to speed on our local 1/8 track, my dad's 2000 Z-71 with the 5.7 takes me every time... however we ran at a 1/4 track on a test and tune night about six months ago before I added my grenetalli enhancer and I edged him out by 3/10's of a second... not extremely impressive but a win nonetheless. Of course I'm talking about 4x4's.... and off road the F-150 is clearly superior the F-150 has a much sharper turning radius and much more torque. There is a creek on our hunting property that we sometimes have to cross that is about 3ft deep with a silty bottom, the Z-71 has been stuck in it twice... not the F-150... it just pulls the chevy out!
