I'm envious, I can even admit it. A shop like that is my dream, all good things come in time though. I hope my time is next week.

how about this......if you are really serious about hauling and towing, skip the 1/2 tons and go straight to a 3/4 ton diesel. really no argument there.

Don't know if you were aware of this but, the Eighth Position of the VIN identifies the Engine:
W = 4.6
8 = 4.6
L = 5.4

All of these are on car lots, and are all 'L'.

Actually, the 4.6 VIN codes are W for Romeo and 6 for Windsor, not 8

Speaking of goats. I got my old truck back from my mom. Effin no good, gosh darn goats and their hooves! They did their own rendition of Mossey Oak Shadowgrass with the paintjob. I think it's time for some curry.

Yeah, I tend to get into trouble trying to provide too much info.
I should have just said, '5.4 = L in the 8 spot' and left it at that since that's what was germane.

Not to mention ponyrider is who knows where and it's PONY_DRIVER who's within 200 miles of the trucks I listed.

I'm such a loser.
Somebody pay jamzwayne ten bucks to jamzwayne the crap out of me. :o

Think I better start putting the 4.6 in the search mix...

Question is... besides the cubes, is the 5.4 superior in any other way?

Is the pulling power that much different? Will I hate the 4.6?

Thanks for putting up with the newbie junk, gang!

thanks,

Someone may have already posted this. 5.4 was not available in a 97 regular cab.

In 1998, the 4.6 was rated at 220 hp and the 5.4 was rated at 235hp (not sure on torque).

Yea, It's starting to look like I may end up with a 4.6.

Reg. cab , step side , 4X4, is rare enough to find in the years I can afford. Let alone with a 5.4

Good news is, nobody is seeming to want to get rid of these trucks, which is a good sign.

I'll be in one soon

I had the truck you are looking for...sold it in 2001. Black, Off Road Pkg, Towing Pkg, Flareside, Reg Cab with the 4.6. I drove it between SC/NC/Pa over the period of 4 years. The last trip was with the bed full and hauling the largest U-haul they make (packed to the gills). Truck did fine going through the mountains of Va and NC. I never had a problem with the truck. Only bad thing was the mileage was never better than 17.5mpg which is why I got a car for commuting. Best of luck in your search.

Raoul, I have 2 F-150's in my driveway as it is...don't tempt me with those others.

PR,

Yeah I get an occasional ribbing from some Chebby guy about my moniker. I'd have changed it, but I have thousands of posts across the internet under this name by now. Although most will abbreviate it s aPony, or PD.
