So...

...it sounds like the bottom line is...Do it carefully. My plan was to get under the hood with a good gegreaser like GUNK and rinse well after that. I should avoid then getting too liberal near the coil packs, alternator ans plugs....sound reasonable?

Hi Mini;

Yep - *careful* is the mantra.

Low pressure water, only as much as is needed to rinse.

I use Simple Green myself - Gunk I find is needlessly caustic. If you do this job regularly, you don't need an agressive agent.

Also beware as indiated earlier - power distribution box, air filter ( if an open type), and that rat's nest of wires beside the battery. The connector for the ECM lives behind the battery too.

Good luck. Nothing like a clean and shiney engine compartment!
