5.4l Cylinder heads
5.4l Cylinder heads
Recently experienced a major problem with my 1999 f150 (Canadian built) which may or may not be common to the 5.4l engine.
Vehicle has travelled 150000klms always serviced by Ford dealer .
Travelling recenmtly at about 70klms per hour Spark Plug blew out of head.
Absolutely no obvious reason (had not been recently changed etc).Seems very little thread actually holds plug in cylinder head and machine shop who repairied head was very concerned regarding permanency of repair.
Vehicle now back together and seems OK although the wallet is a fair bit lighter!
Has any other f150 Owner of this model experienced a similar problem?
Other than this little problem my truck is my dream machine

G'Day, Mate!
Hi.
First - it's not because the truck was built in Canada ;-))
Second - is there EVER a LOT of stuff here on this issue - many posts on the subject. Here's an example - use the Search feature to find even more:

Look up the big sert site. http://www.timesert.com/bigsert-repair.html
They even have a demo on how to repair. This method is better than the factory set up. Ford finally got off thier rear and fixed the problem in 03 with more threads to hold the plugs in place. Although it may be expensive if you replace the heads it can be repaired with the heads still on the engine. We did Neal the HP freaks engine when it blew a plug.
