Nuetral Safety Switch?

ok so i just completed bolting in my 88 300-6 / 5spd conversion into my 92 f150 (previously a 300-6 / AOD) . i thought i read the haynes correctly and spliced together the white/pink to the black/pink to make the auto computer think the truck is in nuetral so the starter will engauge.

i attempt to start the truck, and the relay clicks, but then all the dash lights go out and will not relight. think of the action like a pretty dead battery. turn key "click" not repeated clicking like a half dead battery, but a single click. then no lights. i thought it was a loose battery terminal, but that isnt the problem.

i remember on the 88 ford when it was a complete truck, if i didnt have the clutch depressed the starter wouldnt even click.

im going to try and replace the battery witha new one i happen to have on hand, and see if that makes a difference.
