Underdrive Pullies

Guido874,
Mike Troyer, one of the sites sponsors, spoke about the Mustang pulleys recently in one of his posts. You might consider contacting Troyer Performance about the pulleys. I'm sure they would be glad to talk with you about the pulleys, as well as their other great performance products.

Here is the link to Troyer Performance pulleys page:
http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...talogno=528774
You can see the pro's and con's.
Pro's: See the Troyer page
HP increase
Gas mileage increase (?) due to HP increase
Improves economic development for mechanics if you
choose to outsource the install ($60.00)
Con's: See the Troyer page
Extended idling in traffic with lights/system/air cond on
may drain battery
Best of luck!

I'm running Steeda underdrive pulleys for a *MUSTANG* and I'm fine..I have an overdrive pulley for my Alt because of my stereo...Mikes comments about caps and stereo's are useless. Regular caps do not help* fix* a low voltage problem..they only make it worse..Mike is very helpfull don't get me wrong...There are other options out there though...What you need to watch out for are the number of ribs 6 or 8 and water pump snout length..

They should make all of the kits so that the alternator ends up spinning the same speed as stock. The advantage to slowing down the alternator is insignificant.
Why? Because there is "X" drag/torque proportionally applied at the pulley relative to charging demand. If you spin it slower, there will be less output, and the regulator will "call for" more current/voltage thus putting the net drag/torque right back where you were in the first place. At idle, the alternator spins so slow that it's output is low even when max V is called for.
Granted, if you have all of your accessories on at once full blast and the electrical demand is 100%, then sure it will take less torque to spin the alternator. But how often does this happen? Not very UNLESS you have an aftermarket stereo, in which case it would be doubly foolish to underdrive the alternator.
In my opinion, the only net gain with underdrive pulleys would be whatever drag there is on the alternator bearings, which again is insignificant.
